I currently use a N82 IWB holster, but I would like to get a shoulder holster, however, I do not wear an under shirt so I need one that could be worn on bare skin and not rub a sore spot on my shoulders. I do 18th century re-enacting and I need it to wear at shows I set up for and it will be worn all day long so padding in the right areas is a must. It would also be nice to have a pad behind the grips so it dont freeze me in winter months, I hate cold grips against my side. Any ideas?

The only shoulder holster Ive ever worn/used was a Galco "Jackass" rig.... I dont think it meets your requirements though.. its not padded.. and doesnt cover the grips...

that said, its a quality shoulder holser.. that is very comfortably designed, very low profile, and is reasonably quick to draw from...

Are any other concealment options available to you?

the reason I ask is this...

I dont recommend shoulder rigs to anyone.. unless you have very specific needs.. and nothing else will work for you... the reason for this is....

most ranges will not allow you to train with or draw from a shoulder holster... its hard to get quality practice time in with one..

drawing from a shoulder holster much more often than not requires you to break one of the "4" safety rules (your muzzle is going to sweep unintended targets. to include your own body parts..)...

they are much slower on the draw than most belt rigs...

if not designed properly.. they really arent very good for concealment... (cross straps on the back print through clothing.. long slide pistols tend to press against the back of the shirt/coat.. etc..etc..

I allowed drivers to wear either shoulder holsters or cross draw holsters as an option back when I was doing a lot of protective services work.. belt holsters can be extremely difficult to draw from when seated in a car.. and since drivers generally dont get out of the car other than for a quick meal/piss break.. I wasnt too worried about the concealment issue.. but to be 100% honest.. I still didnt like it.. it was just a better option than others available to us at the time...

Heck no. I am open to anything. With my 18th century clothing there is no belt to hook anything to. I usually end up carrying my sig .380 in a pocket, but I am not wild about that for 2 reasons. fisrt its hard to get it out of that style of clothings pocket and second I lean more to a .45 over a .380
I am open to anything that will work, do you have any other suggestions?
the n82 that I use is a tuckable holster and is kinda hard to get to in a hurry, her is a link to the one I use

Cross breed offers a decent belly band. It actually has a kydex layer to protect the trigger. They offer it for a number of different firearms.

While I'm not a fan (because I have no use for it), there is also the Remora holsters. They are sticky holsters that go in your waistband. They don't mount to anything. They just stick between your waistband and body.

Have you looked into appendix carry? Definitely my preference. Quite a few companys make apendix carry holsters with clips that have enough retention to be clipped simply right on to the inside your pants. No belt needed (although having a belt makes it much easier to draw and carry) and as long as your shirt is untucked it won't interfere with the draw. I've appendix carried while wearing board shorts and t shirt. No one was the wiser.

NO, NO, NO.... Please don't do that. I do not accept gifts.. I can't do that, so please....
I am just looking for some ideas on a holster that would work with historical clothing that has no belt or any thing to hook a IWB holster.
I appreciate the thought but please don't do that bomb thing.

well, I was hoping that this would die over night, but now it looks like I am going to be pushed into leaving this site. That really saddens me cause I do really like it. I was really hoping it would not end up like this but I see this is not going to end. Do not send anything to me, I will NOT accept it and send it back to whoever sends it too me or I will toss it in the trash without opening it. This is a very sad day for me, I never should have asked a damn question.

Thanks guys I pm'ed him this morning to see if he was serious. He wants to be a participant in the board, but not in that manner. So land your bombers on this.

What this brother needs is some good Intel though. I am sure we have that.

If you have not yet found a holster I highly recommend El Paso Saddlery. They have been around since the late 1800's and their leather is top quality. They make holsters for cowboy guns as well as modern guns. They do have shoulder rigs too--the padding thing you might be able to deal with by just adding a piece of foam where needed..but honestly you should just wear an undershirt and you won't have gun on skin contact. You can check out their stuff at www.epsaddlery.com
