I put very few miles on my 2001 Tacoma 4x4 so I just got around to needing my first tire change...33,000 miles on the truck.

I put on Bridgestone H/T Dueler 689's. They were a semi pricey tire at $125.00 a piece. The size is 265/70/R16.

I CANNOT stand these tires! My truck constantly feels like it needs aligned even though I just had an alignment done after the tires were put on.

I did some research on the net and some others have this complaint and they also say these suck in the rain and snow. I assume the H/T means Highway Touring?

Anyway...I don't want to be stuck with a set of tires that I hate for 5 years due to my low mileage I put on.

I talked to another tire place today and they recommended Firestone Destination LE's. So my questions are:

1. Does anyone have experience with these current Bridgestones I put on?
2. Do I grin and bear it for 4-5 years?
3. If not, is the Firestone the guy recommended a good choice or do you have another suggestion?

Thanks!

1. Are you sure the alignment was done right? At least have it checked by a different shop. A little change could make a difference - especially with new tires.

2. Maybe the issue is the tires are slightly out of balance or out of round. Try working with your current shop to solve the problem before buying a new set. You might also try complaining directly to Bridgestone if your local place does not want to deal with it.

How many miles do you have on the Duelers? Since they are the same company, you might be able to complain long and loud to the shop and have them switched out for the Firestone Destinations. Especially if it was the shop who initially recommended the Bridgestone H/T Duelers.

From reading some quick online reviews, it sounds as though they must get a lot of complaints about this tire, so I'm sure that they would not be surprised to see that you're unhappy with your purchase.

Good luck.

Hey Dave,

Another thing you might want to check is called a "road load" balancing. Instead of the normal spin balance, the tire is spun on a roller with a couple hundred pounds of down force. It made a huge difference on the way the tires rode on my last truck. My current tires are the Michelin LTX 285/75 R16 on a F250. The tires are probably the highest quality item on the entire vehicle.

The Michelin LTX ATC spoke of is probably as good of a tire that is made.
They last a long time, are quiet and help with fuel mileage.

but they are more expensive.

BFG A/T's all the way! I'm on my 2nd set of these and I love them! They usually last me about 40-45k miles. I say if you can afford a new set of tires then go for it. I know I'd change them if I wasn't happy and could afford them.

This has happened to my a couple of times; once with a set o Yokohomas and once with firestones. Both times I had used the tires before on other vehicles with no problems. The Yoks were fabulous on the mercedes but sucked on the pontiac. Go back to the dealer and tell them you ar eunhappy. It could be a bad tire, bad design, or your car. Most likely a bad tire as Bridgestones are usually good. I have been buying at Americas Tire for the last 12 years and with 5 vehicles do a LOT of tires. If I'm unhappy, they change em. Your dealer should be the same. If not call Bridgestone and start complaining.

Definitely get it fixed. There is no reason to be unhappy for that long. Not to mention there is the safety factor if the truck is not running down the road correctly.

Gotta agree with this statement. I put these on my Highlander at about 65k miles and now have 116k and they look like they are only about 1/2 way done!

Best tire I have ever owned on an SUV (previously the Chevy Blazer with 200+k & 4 sets of tires).

When I got them, I shopped ALL over the place and Costco's regular price was several hundred less than Sear's "sale" price!
