Dude. I f#$king watched youtube videos all day and I still screwed this up lol. I'm about halfway down the bowl and its finally staying lit. I feel like I'm puffing on it too often, but Im sick of it going out lol. On the plus side this backy smells great.

For all of you new guys, understand that some of these tobaccos will require a "drying" in order to smoke correctly. It's all personal preference (as is everything) but if you're having issues keeping a "moist" tobacco lit, let it sit out on a plate for 2-3 hours. Some tobaccos require all day.

How do we know? Like what should it feel or look like if its dry enough to smoke?

Also I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere how often should I be puffin this thing? Is it like a cigar one puff every minute or so or is it different? Thanks guys.

You'll know the difference between moist and dry tobacco. a moist tobacco will feel "sticky". Unfortunately, there is no rule of thumb for smoking....it varies from person to person and tobacco to tobacco. Once the pipe gets too hot to hold to your cheek, you're smoking too hot...if it's burning your mouth...you're smoking too hot.

trial and error

pinch test: tobacco that is pinched, when too wet, will spring back fairly quickly, and will crumble when too dry, but will slowly take its own shape again if it's about ready. but this is a guideline, not a rule, and jimmy is right on when he says it comes down to trial and error and personal preference.

smoke drier than you think, slower than you think, tamp less than you think you should.
