Doesn't say either on the bag. It says crystals. Doesn't say odorless or scented. Just wondering if anyone recognized the bag or not.

LOL, yeah just cuz I didn't feel like going to Walmert. If you've ever been to Minot, you'd understand. I thought I'd saw the picture of this before here, but couldn't remember for sure. I could open it and give er a sniff, but then I'm out 14 bucks if it smells like something.

Thx Adam. Still couldn't find it, but the website only sells one kind. It does say silica gel on the back though. Never thought I'd ever visit the Fresh Step website, but there's a first for everything. The cat on the bag looks content, so why shouldn't I be.

I cracked open the bag. Smells like a whole lotta nuthin! Should be G2G.

Lol. I used "Exquisicat" brand which is only available at PetSmart, but like others have said, as long as it's fragrance free silica beads, you should be fine. Rupe gave me some really good pointers & my RH has stayed right where I want it (62-64%) since I put it in. I am using about 4 Bovedas just for my own piece of mind though too. I definitely wanted to at least try KL to see if it worked before dropping a lot more cash on beads & so far it's doing the job perfectly.

So silica gel is a drying agent. Are you using this to balance humidity? Is there a thread in play that discusses this?

Should be a couple of them. I've got some MiMi Litter & empty cedar boxes seasoning in my new wineador build right now and need to re-read everything again myself. Hunt through the storage section I'd guess... That, and there are some pros that have been using it for years (Rupe) that are a good knowledge base!

Realize I was hesitant to send this thread because of the bad press it would get. Was just wondering if anyone uses this brand, and since ATL replied, I have no intent on responding to any of the 'other' responses here. I did try to sift through previous threads, but none of them were directly related to my OP.

Thx..
Doug

There's always going to be some good natured chiding about kitty litter. The only difference, for the sake of humidification, between the kl and the beads is do you want your humidor to be solid at 65% RH with the beads or are you ok with your humidity being 64%-66% with kl that takes a little tweaking? They're both made out of the same stuff, however, one is intended for cats to relieve themselves on and the other is intended to maintain a constant RH. How you use either is up to you. I use KL because I can add a lot more for a lot less money and it lessens the time my coolers take to return to a constant RH after I close them.

Should have found and read this first. The one I bought definitely has a scent when spritzed with water. I guess I'm off to Petsmart to get the exquisicat.

(List is meant to be updated. If you have any experience with other litter brands, good or bad, please pass along your knowledge and I'll add it to the list.)

I feel it's a good idea to post a list of brands "acceptable for use with cigars" for all who wish to begin using cat litter to control humidity in your humidor. Or for anyone who might need to switch brands. The list will not be in any particular order and I don't intend to get into all the "how to" aspects of this subject. I only want to point out the specific brand Kitty Litter products that can safely be re-purposed for use in our humidors. I will edit this list in the future with input from members and/or my own experience. I will update the list as needed here in my first post. Feel free to recommend, or advise against specific brands. If you have experience with and can testify that a particular brand and type is ok to use, or if a particular brand is not ok to use, please share your knowledge. (Please be specific in your descriptions and provide pictures if you can)

"GOOD" cat litter: #1. ExquisiCat® Crystals Fragrance Free Cat Litter (This litter is most often mentioned as used by members on this forum. Found at PestSmart. Large granules = less dust. There are two kinds. Make sure you get the "Fragrance Free" and not the "Lavender" scented.)

"GOOD" cat litter #2. Mimi Litter, Cat Litter (found at walmart) (Members have been using this litter with good results. Pro: No apparent scent. Con: Small granules = more dusty.)

"GOOD" cat litter #3. Crystal Clear Litter Pearls (Original) Crystal Clear, by Ultra Pet. Recommended by forum member KingoftheCove. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HWE6F0/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

"GOOD" Cat Litter #4 Amazing Cat Litter (Recommended by forum member ehehat)
Available at LOTS of grocery stores. Check out all the stores listed on their website. http://www.amazingcatlitter.com/where-to-buy.html
This is the ideal label information. 100% silica & Odor Free.

"BAD" cat litter:
#1. Fresh Step Crystals. (Found at WalMart) (Does not mention scented or unscented anywhere on the bag and doesn't seem to have any odor but after spritzing with distilled water it has a noticeable "air freshener" scent.)

"BAD" cat litter #2. Dr. Elsey's Long Hair Cat Litter, Available at PetSmart. (I haven't tried this and only included it as an example of things to watch out for. Hopefully you would know to avoid this silica cat litter because it states on the front of the jug/container, “herbal attractant”. What is “herbal attractant”? Is it catnip? It could make your cigars irresistible to your cat and then how will you explain all your cat’s burns to the vet? )
