I just checked my new hygrometer after a 30 hour salt test and it read 79%. So I started to adjust it and, since I was expecting to see the number change as I set it, I thought I wasn't adjusting it properly. Suddenly realized that I hadn't counted how many "clicks" I made while rotating the knob.

Just restarted the salt test.

Rookie move :argh:

I did that exact same thing when I calibrated mine a few weeks ago. I don't know why I was expecting it to change immediately, but I was. Had to start over from scratch.

I hear this; its like taking a shower and then having too poop...
or getting a car wash and it rains...
smoke a good cigar and the pain will go away ;)

Don't feel bad!
Cigars are much more reliant than we think...As long as none are splitting or moldy, they should be fine

I suppose that, as long as you don't poop in the car right after you've had it washed, things could always be worse!

Normally I'm not that anal retentive (bad choice of words considering I was just mentioning poop) but my basement is fairly humid, so I want to make sure the hygrometer is as dialed in as a $20 hygrometer can be :ccool:

That happened to me a little while ago. I had improperly stored a couple of stick before I had built my Tupperdor. Got too humid and the thing swelled up, tearing the cap. Didn't notice it until I got it in proper storage and the leaves contracted back to their proper size/humidity. I tried to carefully cut the cap and even went for a smaller cut so that I wouldn't be too close to the seam. Stupid cap popped right off. I kept the band on so that it wouldn't unravel too much but and that worked "okay" but once the band had to come off, it unraveled pretty fast.

I am finding that a lot of the learning about cigars must be experiential and can't be taught. However, I paid $7.50 for it and I asked myself if I got $7.50 worth of pleasure from smoking it and I did. So all was well.
