Davidoff cigars, so you smoke them?

So I got to thinking, I never really see many guys smoking Davidoff stuff. I got to wondering why. I've only had a few, and to be honest I've been unimpressed... To me they seem kind of one note and flat. Now that could all be me! I did have one of the Davidoff second private stock long fillers and actually enjoyed it! Go figure! Guess I'm just wondering if anyone out there enjoys them, and if they could recommend a certain cigar in there line to try. I've had the Nicaraguan one and I liked that, I'm more curious about their other lines.

I'm a big Davidoff fan. If you want to try to sample the range of their choices I'd recommend starting with the 6000 which is a fairly mild but flavorful smoke. Next go to the Maduro...a bit fuller, nice full flavor. Then the Colorado Claro special R...medium full body and great rich complex palate. Then try the Millennium. .. a great example of a medium full bodied Dominican. Next is the Puro d'Oro...full body and a great spice from the Yamasa wrapper. Of course the Nicaragua is superb, particularly in the robusto..Although the PC is a real firecracker.

One other thing. ..you can't experience the full range of these cigars unless you smoke slow and retrohale. The subtle flavors really come out then

Thank you for the input! Maybe I'll start with the more med/full side. I tend to like those better in general. I also like a spicy smoke so the oro(sp) one sounds great... I'll try a few more before I give up. Price is so prohibitive when there are so many others I know I like. Thanks again for walking me through the lines they offer.

Are they more than an L40 or padron anny? Never really even checked them out.

The special releases are amazing too, and since they come in 10 count boxes price is not as bad. The new 25 Anny is amazing.

If you're looking for a Davidoff with some giddyup, the 702 LE is a solid start. IMO they're some of the most well-constructed sticks around, but the Black line may not be as consistent as their DR lines from what I've experienced.

The only ones I've smoked have been gifts, all great sticks but to pricey for me to seek out. I refer to these as the "wedding cigar" only time I see a handful of them

I used t smoke Davidoff seconds when first got into cigars many moons ago. Used to get them from The tinderbox on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica. Such a thrill to get a fantastic cigar at a fraction of their more perfect, full priced brethren!

Seeing as these seconds were either ever so slightly off in length or ring gauge, yet smoked just as well as those at full price; it begs the question....Can you still get seconds? Seems it would solve the high price hurdle that many have noted.

I don't know about seconds, but Private Stock is a brand made at the Davidoff factory that are pretty cheap. Might be worth a try if you like Davidoff, but wish they were kinder on the wallet.

I've actually never tried a Davidoff or Avo just for that reason. PRICE! When I can buy Padron Aniv. or even an Ashton ESG, even some Opus X. I go for the Others every time. I should really just drop the cash and try a Davidoff and Avo at some point.

I like the thinner ring gauge Davidoff's, but it took me a while to come around to them. The price is up there but to me it is the same price as Padron 1926, so I don't think it's crazy expensive, just something a lot of people wouldn't make an everyday cigar. I began to enjoy Nicaraguan tobacco for its big bold flavor profile, but after a while a lot of stuff started tasting the same and it was just all about strength. While I do enjoy Nicaraguan tobacco still and several of my regular smokes are medium to full bodied, I do like to smoke mild to medium bodied cigars as well. That is where Davidoff fits in to my wheelhouse, an alternative to heavy nicotine bombs and I can't say that I have ever had a bad Davidoff.

I remember someone saying a couple years ago that as a whole we (BOTL) don't smoke a lot of Padron either but recently there was a conversation where Padron was tops on the Quality/Construction list for many people, yet don't see very many posts in the today's smoke or latest purchase threads regarding Padron, which I also think can be attributed to the price factor on the 1926 and Family Reserve lines.

I think I might have to fire up a Davidoff today.....

These were labeled as Davidoff Seconds, and rang up at like 3 bucks a pop! Then again, this was just before the mid 90's cigar boom, so the practice of selling seconds was not nearly as popular as it is now.

Another option is the many cigars that are blended and made at the Davidoff factory, such as Paul Garmirian, Avo and Paul Vato. Looking online they can be had for good prices.

Recently had an Anniversario #3 to celebrate my daughter's birth. My first Davidoff. Construction was excellent and tobacco was very high quality. For me, a bit mild but very enjoyable. I'd like to try one of their Nicaraguans or maduros.
