I can taste the lineage between the two and even reach for a big john to sub for bcbs but big john is like the younger sibling leans more towards chocolate and not as complex. Let me know what you think of one with a year or so on it.
I like them with a bit of time it seems. Good as usual.

I can relate to that; I had the 2011 Big John in May (obviously different because of the chocolate used in brewing) but the 2013 BCB I had last night was so similar, I would love to try them side-by-side. I have a 2012 BCB that ill crack soon to compare to this year... freaking beer... I don't even like it but there are so many good ones out there!

Was it good? Yes.
Was it awe-inspiring? No.
Was it a top 2 from GI? Yes.
IMO The Cherry Rye from last year was better; but it was a close second.
The minute I have a bottle; you will have it brother; then we can compare tasting profiles.
