I agree
let's be honest here, if you have NEVER had an anejo, burn it soon! there is little point to me to buy and age something i don't love, and won't continue to love over time. and yes, that implies that there are people who don't like anejos. i think they are f#@king high, but i respect their opinion. o)

and the thing that makes me love anejo more than opus, is that both are amazing with age, but the anejo are still fan-frickin-tastic right off the truck. they don't NEED the down time like opi do.

I recently bought a box of 2012 Sharks because of the lore surrounding them and now that I have had the benefit of burning a couple, I wish I had spent the coin on the 46's. The Sharks are a good smoke and I'm sure over time they will get better and better, but it just confirms that I truly am a small RG guy. The 46 & 48 are my Anejos of choice, hands down. I am also a big fan of the Opus Perfection No. 5, but that is OT.

Same here. If I go into a shop and let's say they have a box of Sharks and a box of #46's on the shelf, I'm going to reach for the #46 every time.

Personally, I prefer the 46's and the 60's over any of the other Anejo. Everyone around here goes ape shit over the Sharks and they sell quicker than any size. I don't get the hype to the Sharks, but if it leaves the 46's & 60's on the shelf a little bit longer then I am fine with that.

MSRP is Manufacturers "Suggested" Retail Price which is almost always higher than the regular sale or "retail" price from the seller.

Famous, Emerson, etc typically do not sell at MSRP, they sell at the lowest possible price or "MAP" which is "Minimum Advertised Price".... MAP is employed and enforced by the Manufacturer/ Wholesaler so that no one-single reseller sells below everyone else and takes all potential sales.

I'd say smoke it, see what you think of it fresh. Then decide if you want to age some. To me, the anejo age wonderfully. I've got a half box of 3 yr old 49's that are smoking great. Although, IMO, the sharks age better than the 49's. I've been comparing these for a few yrs now. A 1 yr old shark, to me, is better than a 2 yr old 49. Weird, but that's how I felt. The 46, I don't have many of those, but I wish I did. I think the smaller ring is a plus.

Also, I recently smoke a fresh 49, it was worthy, but very much noticeably new. Age does wonders with the Anejo's.

It still amazes me how different everyones palates are. even though its an obvious piece of common sense that everyone likes different things. But its like steak. Generally most guys love steak. But some like them rare, some scorched, some medium.

Tampa Humidor gets my vote w/free shipping on singles. I'd get one in each size and still catch a break with the free S/H. I'm with the others as age really makes a difference on them as they really mature and balance well with that great profile.

Should the cedar sleeves be removed, and the cello re-installed to age these over time? Is it just Anejo that have problems with mold and cedar, or anything wrapped in cedar? If you're at 65% humidity is there less of a chance of a problem? I've noticed that most of the time boxes are really wet, and take a long time to dry out. (only add water in my colidors for boxes every few months) I have a new box each of sharks, and 60s. the 60s have cedar, and the sharks no cedar. The old ass sharks that I have have no mold, and no cedar. I don't want to open the 60s in two years, and have them be moldy. Help! Want to know the best procedure.

thanks!

yes, pull the cedar! re-cello or leave them natural, your call, but the cedar needs to go.

IMO it is really an issue with the anejo, and not any other cedar-dressed smoke per se.

I wonder if it's due to wetpacking where the moisture just can't escape?

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some investigating! And let me ask, why do you think it's an Anejo thing?

it may be a wet pack thing, or a factor of the barrel fermentation of the anejo wrapper. not truly sure, but it's a well known thing with anejo.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Makes some sense about the wrapper. I'm sitting on quite a few of these with 3+4 yrs on them. Haven't had a problem. But I'm not going to take any chances. The cedar is coming off. Thanks Java.

I've been collecting Anejo's for over 10yrs and I leave the cedar on and I've had very few issues with mold. I've seen a few with spots but nothing major and that was pretty much confined to a box of # 49's from 2004.
