Hey guys, I leave for Basic training and military school to become a Combat Control Specialist in the USAF. While I'm in Texas for a while I'd love to hear from you guys some MUST HAVE cigars I should age in my humidor for when I get back, and for those of you guys from Texas some must visit Cigar shops or establishments I should visit upon graduation down there! I'd love some recommendations!

You won't be doing much on your graduation weekend. As I'm pretty sure for BMT graduates smoking is forbidden. As is drinking. Since you will be in uniform.

Also unless rules have changed smoking won't be allowed at your tech school either.

So you may be aging for quite longer than you thought.

But there's a semi decent cigar shop in the mall. And then you can walk the boardwalk and smoke. (In tech school feel free to break all rules. DONT do it graduation weekend)

All AETC courses prohibit smoking so I think your getting quite a bit ahead of yourself and don't do anything stupid like get an AF tattoo your not in the Air Force till you graduate basic and CCT has a high washout rate so your not a Combat Controller till you graduate there!

IMHO CCT is very physically demanding you won't have time for smoking so save what you have till you graduate

Correction: don't get an AF tattoo period. Hahahaha.

Trust me. Don't be that guy.

I was that guy.

I wish I wasn't.

Also USAF tattoos are Article fifteen targets. I swear.

But ditto what he said. You're not an airman till you get your coin. And you're not CCT till you graduate from their school. Hell. You could end up as SF.

Honestly these days if you wash out of anything you are going to McDonalds we are going through tremendous manpower cuts so even O6s are getting forced out, smaller leaner Air Force, even Special Ops is not exempt from cuts trust me.

Also, don't be one of the military members that dry begs for cigars and discounts, that is one thing that irritates me and I honestly find embarrassing to the uniform. Groups like Cigars for Warriors and some stores will give you a discount for being in the military but that is a gesture of appreciation and should not be ask for or demanded. You know what you are signing up for and hopefully it isn't free shit or discounts, those people don't last long!

I didn't think our current cuts would effect tech schoolers as much as it the rest of us. But it makes sense. I'm seeing more and more friends get the word that the Airforce no longer needs them.

Thank you for saying this! I despise when people ask for a military discount. We signed up to do a job, earn a wage, and knew what it meant to raise our hand and swear in. Thinking the world owes you something is so asinine. Yet, I see it happen all the time.

Pretty much everyone is eligible to be cut and I have reminded several of the younger enlisted force that were upset over the cuts that it is the military we are professionals trained and paid to do a job and it isn't another government jobs program. They don't like hearing that it isn't the Air Forces problem that they didn't save any of their money and spent it all of Coach purses for their girlfriends and big wheels and stereos for their cars or the big screen flat screens and all the other stuff they get with an AAFES Star Card. Another word of advice don't get the AAFES Star Card.

One last bit of advice. If you have shoulder length hair. Cut it before basic.

I got my TIs attention way too early on because I refused to cut it before I left
