Smoking ban for 'Tom and Jerry' in Britain

Is it going overboard to ban the episodes of the Tom & Jerry cartoon where one of the characters is smoking?

Instead of focusing on a 1940s cartoon edited out in Britain, your anger would be better directed at the Parents Television Council, a bunch of alarmists and fear spreaders that try and get the FCC to censor TV in this country.

Road Runner cartoons have been edited. Too much violence. I can't recall if the coyote or the road runner ever smoked, though.....

Classic Warner Brothers (and some others) have been edited for a while now. There used to be some really really really racist things in there.
There were a few WWII cartoons that were pretty rough too.
Interesting to watch though.

My son loves Tom & Jerry cartoons, along with all the old Looney Tunes cartoons.

It's called parenting folks! Maybe if some people would learn to stop using the TV to babysit their kids they might be able to teach the kids the difference between right and wrong too.

Anyone remember Heckel and Jeckel? Couple of Smart Ass Crows. I loved 'em. Today, they couldn't be shown before bedtime without ticking some off some group or another.

Great link. Weird how Britain wants to ban the smoking cartoons as some of the more racist cartoons in that website list were shown when I was a kid, though saying that I am 30 something now!!!

I do not have kids either, but I explain to my dogs that they should not consider everything that they see on TV as proper behavior.

We've got an old cartoon DVD that starts with Daffy the Commando. Talk about something that would seriously piss off a dozen groups now.

Daffy is a WWII US commando, and parachutes into "enemy" territory. Basically, it's a bunker/trench scene with a vulture dressed up as a german nazi officer and Daffy ensues his typical hyjinks. Eventually he is trapped in a large artillery gun and shot out by the german, he goes flying with US flags in each arm, and land right behind Hitler (complete with swastika flags and armbands) at a big rally and causes problems there too.
