Finally got my package from Famous smoke shop today, what do you guys think?

Picked up a 10 stick sampler from Famous Smoke shop and some boveda packs. Guess I need to steal a bigger Tupperware from the wife now.

Newbie question on the packs, do I need to do anything special with them or just toss them in with the cigars? Tips, advice, do and don't please.

Congrats on the first purchase... will be a fun ride. But doh on the boveda packs... if those are for storing and humidifying your cigars, 75% is way too high. 75% is usually for calibrating a hygrometer. The 69% ones are as high as you should go, a lot of people prefer lower say 65%, 62% etc.

Thanks much for your purchase! We appreciate it, and hope you enjoy. For what it's worth, not to discourage you from buying more stuff but while I do agree that 75% is higher than I'd like to keep my cigars at, the packs you have may end up working out for your purposes. I wouldn't keep them in a regular humidor, but since you're using tupperware, you can just leave a little crack in the corner to let a little of the humidity out and you could be ok. Just keep checking in on them and make sure they don't get too soft or spongy. Be careful on the slope!

I'm a noob but lets say he is in a place where his humidor is struggling to stay over 60, even with 70% rh beads, solution, back whatever. perhaps 75rh will work out?

Edit: I see he is in Cali. 75% won't work for you. That 75% is their calibration pack. I would say just use it to calibrate you hygrometer anyway. Don't just waste it.

The 75% rh Boveda will keep trying to regulate to 75% humidity no matter what other humidification is in the storage container of choice. The "leaving" a crack in the lid, or some kind of air-exchange option will likely work best IMO (aside from using a lower rh Boveda-style pack.

Watch your humidity with a calibrated digital hygrometer (first choice) and see how the container is holding humidity, don't over-think it or worry too much. If you are just starting out, you'll likely be sticking your nose in there a few times a day to inhale that amazing aroma, and over-humidification will likely not be a problem :)

I wouldn't use them at all, other an calibrating...nothing worse than a stick that's to wet, thats why so many of us dry box sticks a couple days before smoking. Hate relighting because the thing is a sponge.

Thanks for the tips guys, ordering some lower % today anyways just to have extras. I did put them in with my sticks for now because I didn't have anything anyways. I also need to look at getting a bigger tupperware or just man up a buy a desktop box because now all my sticks are in 2 different tupperwares.

This is becoming an expensive habbit. :squinteye

Jesse. Don't waste your money on those cutters please.

Bad draws and tar build up to name a few. Other bros will chime in as well
Yup - Tried one cigar cut with the Shuriken and it was everything Agentskull said. A cheap $2 guillotine will serve you better. However, drop the coin on a Xikar or Palio cutter. You'll be a lot happier. I didn't realize what kind of impact a good cutter makes until I bought my Xikar.

HAHA, thanks again. It just looked like a cool idea.

Yeah I keep hearing about those Xikar & Palio cutters, think once my cheepo ones start wearing I'll invest in one. I mainly want to get the cigars in there right atmosphere before I start buying toys.

Utah that is so true. Everyone asks and on this forum you will have brothers for both Xikar and Palio.

I say go into a B&M that has them and try them both out get a feel for them both and then decide. Both carry great customer service and lifetime warranty.

Try them out yourself and be your own judge.

FWIW, invest in one before the cheap ones wear out or you'll find yourself stuck with biting the ends off your cigars while you wait for the cutter to arrive. And there are other quality cutters less expensive than those two, so you don't have to spend a lot.

What I am about to do that I shouldn't (and wish no one had told me about) is tell you to go to www.cigarbids.com It's an auction site that has sucked more money out of me than... well, I won't finish that thought since the interwebz archives all these posts :argh: Be very, very careful of that site. No, that's not fair... Go there ONLY if you have some self-control. I just picked up a Xikar butane lighter for $7 and, at a quick glance, there is a Colibri cutter with a current bid of $7.

But a good cutter really does make a big difference. It's like getting laid: you don't truly understand all the fuss until you experience it personally.

I have to chime in here about Famous. I spread my purchases around amoung the sponsors but hadn't bought anything from them in a while. The other day, afternoon, I ordered a bunch of Fivers and with the BOTLORG code I saved 15%. I opted for the free shipping and figured it would take 2-3 days to arrive in Connecticut. I had it shipped to my work address so it wouldn't get left on my steps out in the snow. The freaking package was waiting for me the next morning in my office! Someone must have jumped in the car right after I ordered and hand delivered it! Very impressed.

We hear so much about the problems with either B&Ms or online retailers. Always refreshing to hear about good customer service these days. Next time I am ready to place an order, I'll definitely try them.
