For the past week and a half I've been helping out part time at my favorite B&M as one of the owners recovered from a stroke. (He's doing very well, came back to work on Monday part time)
Here are some ways I found to bring customers in during slow times: (note only work if your working alone)
Take out the trash
Go to the restroom
Try to work at the desk in the back office
Start refilling the humidifiers 5 minutes before closing.
In all it's been enjoyable. A job where you can sit and watch movies during slow times with headphones on to block all the little kiddie "keeyaaahhhh"s you hear through the paper thin walls from the Kung Fu school next door.
Lot's of interesting people. I've learned a lot about Pipes and tobacco (the owner is a real guru) and I'm seriously thinking about trying pipes.
I'd love to continue 1 or 2 days a week. Working a regular job (just 6 hours a day though) and then driving there for 4.5 more gets a little tiring though.
