Not sure what to make of it. Guy says he paid $700 for it and it holds 500 cigars. He also says its signed by "Ray" Hanositas, I've never hear of him unless he is clueless and means Kaizad Hansotia. Sent two e-mails, requesting information on the size of the unit, if it was new or used and if he know who made the box for Gurkha. No responses.

Wow $500. IMO, I would never pay that much for that humidor. Sorry, I don't have any info on this particular humidor. Just wanted to say that you can do better than this if you were wanting to buy it...

He paid WAY too much..

Ive seen them go for $150-$250 (same one.. signed by K Hansotia) on other boards and on ebay... which, IMO is still about $149-$249 too much lol)....

For $500 you can buy a very nice end table cabinet.. brand new.. or a a winecooler.. and cover the entire cost of conversion to a wineador.. etc.. Unless you are just a super crazed Gurk fan.. or really need to add K's signature to your autograph collection or something.. I cant see why anyone would drop that sort of change on it...

There are far better options out there for far less money (again, my opinion only..)...

There are reasons to spend that much on that humidor - if you're a collector, if there is some meaning to it for you, if you're a huge Gurkha fan, etc. Now, that being said, *I* wouldn't pay that much. But I would pay a few thousand for some of the Elie Bleu humidors (if I had the money). Not because I think they are the world's best at storing cigars but because I really like their aesthetics.

However, you definitely want to have something like that appraised/evaluated. I can't tell from the picture if it would actually hold up to 500 cigars. However, I *do* know that Gurkha has an active social media presence and I've had some good interaction with them on Twitter.

If you're willing to pay $500 for the humidor if you can get its authenticity verified, then maybe start by sending a tweet to Gurkha, include the link, and ask if the claims are true (to begin with - like only made for dealers, how many signed, etc.) If they say that it's not true, then you just saved yourself $500.

And, BTW, I am not saying that that particular humidor is worth $500 - I have no experience or skills to make such an authoritative statement (or even non-authoritative).

I am not a Gurkha fan at all, and I had no intention of paying $500 for it. I wanted to see if anyone here knew who built the box for Gurkha, I mean is it quality box or is it a cheap Chinese POS. Sounds like from the comments here its not a quality unit and I probably won't pursue any further. Thanks for the advice.

No reason to go through all of that at all.. a simple google search reveals that this humidor was released just last year as an LE.. which is something that Gurkha does with quite a bit of frequency to be honest (theyre always releasing limited edition this, or special edition that... signed by so, and so, etc..etc..).. there isnt much of a market for fake humidors or fake K Han signatures.. the risk is extremely low here...

the larger concern is the asking price/value.. I am pretty sure that Han's signature isnt going to increase in value significantly over time (although I admit I am no expert).. and while this particular LE Humi isnt available "new" anymore.. it is still regularly available in the secondary market (again, google will show where its been sold on ebay, a motorcycle forum, and other places in the last 6 months..and sold for considerably less).. and its a pretty safe bet that there will be yet another "limited edition gurkha humidor" released sometime in the not so distant future....

so.. taking all of those things into consideration.. the question is.. is it worth even remotely what the asking price is..

to me (and I believe the vast majority of people out there).. its not even close..

If you individually are a rabid fan.. or just have to have it for some reason... maybe so..

But the chance of you ever being able to recoup your financial investment.. is likely very low... so it better be worth it on a personal level (again, huge K Han fan.. huge Gurk fan.. etc..)..

You said what I was trying to say but a lot more clearly! LOL

There is "worth" and there is "value". As I've said, I have so little experience in this area that I can't give a definitive answer. Is it a good value for $500? The brothers seem to agree and say 'no'. Is it worth it? To someone who absolutely wants it, maybe.

For me, I'd rather spend $500 on cigars to go inside a humidor.

That being said, I do like the Elie Bleu stuff but, really? $4500 for a Che Guevara humidor is kind of ironic, considering that such excesses was one of the things he fought against. Now, from a "hipster's love of irony" perspective, it would be funny to have.

If I could find a Humi that was actually owned by Che, or Fidel, or anyone else that I find intriguing.. whether famous.. or infamous ;) ... I'd likely pay top dollar for it (assuming I could afford it at all)... even if its monetary value was lower than its personal appeal/value.. If someone really finds K Han intriguing... I wouldnt fault them for buying it... its their money/decision...

I'd just advise them to keep shopping a little longer... since in this particular case there is a pretty strong possibility that another one is going to come available in a reasonable period of time.. for most likely a whole lot less money...

FWIW I like the Elie Bleu stuff too... but damns is it expensive.. their "cheap" stuff comes in in the $1K range.. CrAzy!

Those 500 ct Elie Bleus are beautiful, but if I had that kind of coin I'd have Arlin Liss build me a custom job.

And as if on cue there's Arlin showcasing more of his beautiful work, you are the man. But if I had the cash I would prefer something more like this.
