Attended a coaches meeting tonight and volunteered to coach both a 5-6 year old team and a 7-8 year old team. Have I lost my mind.

Scouts for my 7 year old on Monday's
7-8 Year Old Soccer Practice on Tuesday's
Karate for my 7 year old (and trying to start the 5 year old) on Wednesday's
5-6 Year Old Soccer Practice on Thursday's
Rum :bottle: tequilla :bottle: vodka :bottle: scotch :bottle: on Friday's
2 soccer games each Saturday

Add to this a 1.5 hour commute each way to work. I get to start leaving for work at 5:30am to be home by 5:30pm to be at one ofthe above activities by 6.

I have coached a team the past 2 years and enjoy seeing the kids improve over the course of the season. Maybe we can win more than 2 games this year.

the kids make it all worth it. as long as you dont loose sight of the fact that it's supposed to be about the kids, like so so so so so many parents in sports have.

You bailed it. I coached LaCross and had to send parents home from games. I almost had to send my sons Grandfather home when he started taunting the refs with "what kind of lace panties are you wearing today?" The kids are great but working with parents help you learn all about diplomacy. :closedmou

Agreed- That's why I am coaching both teams

Had some issues with my son playing basketball last year that I had to explain to the caoch that these kids are trying to learn and have fun and that hose two kids on the team that think they are good (his son and the assitant coaches son) are just punk assholes and need to sit out a few games so the kids on the team thet "suck" (the asshole kids word not mine) could show them how to play.

He followed my advice.

The coach did bench the two kids when he said another boy on the team would be the point guard for a quarter. They both started whining and complaining that the boy sucked and shouldn't be playing at all. First time over the course of the first 4 games that I saw the coach actually tell his son something productive.

Well they continued to loose, but more of the kids on the team got to handle the ball and had a greart time during the 2nd half of the season.

If my kids play sports withing this community based league, I will be their coach or assistant coach. I have coached 2 seasons of soccer and 1 t-ball. In soccer we have sucked pretty bad, maybe won 4 games in the 2 years, but I always have the parent's and kids asking to be on my team again. At these ages, it's about learning the game and having fun.

The parents can be out of control and it's just sooo sad to see. A lot of towns now have laws/regulations to handle those situations.

I coached beginner hockey for seven years with a good friend. We always had a pre-season meeting with the parents and showed them a movie about how to be a "good" parent. We emphasized the fun aspect of our program and that we were going to be fair with all regardless. One parent in all those years had an issue with us because I pulled his kid for being a jerk to one specific kid in our program when they were on the ice. He was really pissed because his kid didn't get to play much that day. I told him and my partner also told him that we will not tolerate cheap shots or other types of unfair play in our program. If that means his kid sits on the bench, so be it. He didn't like it but he dealt with it. And we coached kids from 5-9, 10-13 & 14-17 on the same days. Three hours on the ice at least once a week.

My favorite encounter with a player was we had a 14 yo girl who was very attractive for her age (looked 18 even on a bad day) and she made the mistake of telling someone she had been up until the early hours partying the night before. Guess what I had them do next? Yep, windsprints!!! LOTS of them!

LOL!!!

You have a great attitude towards your program Richard. Glad to see parents who let everyone play.
