Having found, what appears to be, a solution to my humidity problem I now have another one.

I'm trying to find a canister/container to put the Water Gems in so I can put them throughout the humidor. My first thought was to get small ziplock food containers and drill some holes around the upper sides and in the lids. Unfortunately I'm not overly handy and the plastic just didn't want to be drilled into cleanly.

So any recommendations on a vented container or how to make clean holes in this damn plastic LOL

i know what you mean with the drill.

you can heat up a nail or other small thin metal object and melt holes in the lid. will go through pretty cleanly and not spread like the drill allowing multiple holes of whichever size you wish.

i fixed my ps3 headset last week using a towel, butter knife, and stove to solder the wire down. i could see using vice grips, nail of preferred size, and hot stove to make this melting happen at home.

Genius! Tried this and it worked flawlessly!

Maybe a hole punch? I use a tool I've had from my R/C car days. http://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=150&p_catid=164#.UvJSXni9LCQ. The heated nail would also work.
I actually tried a reamer for an RC car body and it was better than the drill, but still not as perfect as I was looking for.

Speaking of R/C Cars want to buy one? LOL

cigar coffins... a drill.. and a piece of sandpaper...

youll end up with some "mess" on the inside of the cigar coffin lid.. but a couple of quick swipes with the sandpaper will fix that.. and you wont see it anyway (will be on the inside of a closed wooden box)..

Im not familiar with a "water gem".. so I don't know if its like a bead (can directly touch wood or not).. or gel.. or what.. but.. if youre concerned about it laying directly on the wood, you could always line the coffin with a ziplock or some other plastic...

Im a fan of coffins, just because they "look" right inside the cabinet alongside all the other cedar boxes.. as opposed to having other containers/socks/etc.. in there...

Haha nope I'm out of that stuff. I raced 1/8 buggy for many years. Talk about a money pit!

I like the coffin idea as well - I just don't have any coffins and the local shops to me don't really carry anything in that size.

If you want to avoid the mess of a drill, just go to a craft store and grab some needlepoint backing. Costs like a buck for a big sheet. cut to size, slide in, et voila. Done.

Just post an ISO and I'm sure the BOTLs here can help ya!

^ This... ^

I posted an ISO for coffins last year.. and ended up with about 10 of them in less than 72 hours...

Be advised.. they all got shipped with bodyguards.. which caused me much pain and suffering until I was able to send some retribution back the other direction..

But... they are excellent (IMO) for RH media storage... and were worth the angst..

I like the coffins for storage. I use them for my desktops and it works well with hf beads. Don't know if it would be feasible for a 150 qt or a wineador though.

I have a large Oasis XL II with fans for primary humidification. Despite the fans though the top if the unit tends to run dry so I was planning to use these as sort of auxiliary humidification in those areas :D

So the water gems are "wet" -- imagine dropping a marble into a bowl of water and pull it out. The moisture left is sort of how the water gems are at all times. Would placing them directly in the coffins create any issue (mold, etc) or will that be okay? Trying to figure out a good way to line the coffin with plastic seeing as they are so small.

A sheet of Press and seal with the sticky side to the wood would likely work and be easy to trim to the size you need once it's in
