So how is it that Gurkha is still in business? Most of the people I know don't dig them at all. So what gives? You can only make a bad product for so long before you can no longer operate. Obviously somebody likes them somewhere. Also if DE was talked about this much for having just ONE bad stick, JD would be talking about it and vowing to do better. Just saying
It's because they're not aimed at guys like us. Our little corner of the internet has it's own biases, but they're generally aligned with what's smoking well, and is more boutique. Generally stronger flavors - Tats, Ligas, etc.
The Gurkha folks are much more interested in broad, mainstream appeal, and selling a ton of smokes. Which they do. Advertising, putting their brands in primo spots at major retailers like CI, results in a crap-ton of sales of a crap ton of crap smokes, for both the guys who think they're status symbols, and buys who just want a lot of "premium" cigars on the cheap. So they make major money.
