Figured we could start a catch-all thread for discussion about the Olympics.

Anyone watching as yet? What events are you looking forward to?

For me, I can't wait for the hockey to start, but beyond that there aren't a lot of things I'm waiting for. Also interesting to see there was already one attempt at terrorism with a thwarted hijacking attempt in Turkey...Think that will be the end of it?

Hockey! And the biathlon! My prediction for men's hockey is that Canada will win gold but if anyone will upset I think Russia have a great chance this year!

As far as terrorism goes, I think the Russians will have it covered, they are working closely with the us government and forgiven agencies to provide the best security they can for the situation, I think that you would have to be ignorant to look past the fact that all events televised world wide were not under risk of some attack, and knowing this the proper precautions were taken and are being taken to provide a safe games to the citizens of Sochi and the athletes alike.

Because I know a great pair of Brothers has a gentlemen's wager on men's hockey I will leave with Go Canada! Ps Robbie your screwed haha

Hockey is about all I'll watch, believe it or not I also enjoy curling. I believe Canada's hockey team has this one locked up but USA and Russia are also stacked so it should be interesting. Just like to see all the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Olympics do well.

Maybe the pessimist in me, but I'm not as convinced as you guys are about the chances of the hockey team. I really think the larger ice surface will have a big effect on them, and to be honest, none of their goalies are coming in to the tournament in what I'd consider 'top' form either. Losing out on Stamkos won't help either...

Just my very humble opinion, but i am not nearly as excited about this Olympics as I usually am. I attribute it to all of the stories about how ill prepared Russia really is for this event. And it's not the terrorism, since that is always a threat. It's the general lack of preparedness that has athletes not even feeling safe to compete due to inadequate practice facilities, media pulling out due to lack of housing/hotels, and various other instances that show a general lack of preparedness. To me (and again my opinion) it feels like Russia just didn't really care about getting this right, and had what, 5 years to prepare? Of course an event of this magnitude WILL have issues, but seems like there should never be issues that cause an athlete to go home.

I agree, sad really given the number of other country's that would of loved to host the games and do it right.

And I get that maybe economic conditions there are a factor, but I just don't see how they could not have considered that .

I say I like to watch most any event in winter games (not so for the summer) except figure skating. I would say bobsledding is always good and I have been curious to try and watch curling.

I was liking Sweden in Men's hockey until one of the sisters had to back out. The olympic sized ice changes everything and with the parity of hockey around the world it's no longer a 1 or 2 country race. There are legit 5/6 countries that I wouldn't shocked to see win (Can, US, Rus, Swe, Fin and even the Swiss).

Other than hockey… its curling all the way!! HARRRRDDDDD….. HURRRYYY!!!!!

I feel exactly the same. This Olympics is a perfect example of how to never do any type of event. There are seats empty everywhere and athletes just not caring as much.

I'm torn, like Canada with Toews, Keith and Sharp playing for them, although I still think Yzerman made a mistake leaving Brent Seabrook off the roster.

U.S. is where I am from, and Kane is playing for them.

Since I was born and raised a few miles from the Canadian border, I almost have dual citizenship, LOL.

I will root for them both. If they both make it to the Gold Medal game, I can only wish for a game as great as the one 4 years ago.

Yeah, that was an amazing experience.

Team Canada all the way for me.

Plus, I enjoy bobsled, luge, men's downhill, and ski jumping (the big hills - ski-flying)

I watch as much as I can of the summer Olympics, but winter doesn't interest me outside of the Hockey.
