My particular favorite is the stone brewing co. IPA; the guys who made arrogant bastard ale. I also like dogfish heads 60 minute ipa. Their 90 minute is too IPAish for me. Oh and rogue brutal IPA is phenomenal. That one is hard for ,e to find, personally.

Some flavors you can get from IPAs -

Skunk-ass
Grass
Weed/Marijuana
Grapefruit
Citrus in general
Pine
Juniper

It is correlated to the Hop varieties used in the brewing process.

If your IPAs are too bitter, but you really feel compelled to drink them, start with the maltier ones (like Dogfish Head) or even just drink Sierra Nevada Pale Ale....Also, Unita Hop-notch and New English Trooper's Tipple, are two beers available in the west that are not as "Hop forward" as most.

Once you get used to the bitterness, then you can work your way over to the less malty/crisper flavors of Green Flash West Coast or Ballast Point Sculpin.
Hops are actually in the same family as marijuana.... just minus the THC.
Yeah! They are also a natural antiseptic... and they are in my hippie deodorant... and the the Drug Sniffing dogs also pick up on it when I travel into AZ. Good times. Do you know how many times we had to unload the tour van because of my deodorant? I always forget until it is too late.

Deschutes Red Chair would be a good start. I believe it isn't as intense as a full blown IPA. Deschutes Inversion is a good IPA. I noticed no one mentioned Breckenridge's 471. It's a double IPA, and god damn it's a great beer.

Ruination by Stone is one of the best IPAs I've come across as well.

Dunno about anyone else but I don't have to work tomorrow so I've taken this thread as inspiration to IPA it up. Already 3 Two Hearted Ales deep but that was the last of them in my fridge so on to the Mad Tom IPA I go..... :)

I've moved to somewhere in Arizona
+1 for Hop Stoopid. Firestone Walker Union Jack, Wooki Jack, Double Jack, Sera Nevada Torpedo, 21A Live Free or Die IPA. Lagunitas Sucks is a poor example of of an IPA, its more of a hoppy barly wine or an old ale. Still really tasty though.

That's what I'm talking about! On my 4th hop shock. Well 6th if you count the two from earlier but I don't because there was a meal between!

Yakima, WA is one of the biggest regions in the world for growjng Hops. About a year ago a craft brewery opened up that specializes in IPA's. Bale Breaker Brewery has some very good IPA's. Their Field 41 & Topcutter are their big sellers and they do special runs of others. They do ship and are starting to be seen in stores and restaurants here. They only sell cans & refill growlers..trying to be "eco friendly". They have a nice tasting room too.

Yeah... track down Pliny the Elder... I don't think it is in AZ... but you're a lot closer to CA than I am.

Also... try to drink them fresh. Check dates on bottles. <30 days is great. I personally don't buy anything >60 days old. The bright hoppy taste fades fast.
