I just broke down and picked up a DVR from the cable company to see if I like it.

It's basicly TiVo Technology I understand.

What's everybody else using to record with?

I need to get one myself. A friend has DVR and loves it. The benefit from what I hear is that if it breaks, the cable company sends you a new one whereas with Tivo you are SOL unless you have a warranty still.

So far I really like it. It is always recording, so you have a 30 min window in which to pause or rewind.

I can record from 2 different channels at the same time AND watch a recorded show at the same time.

I still have some playing around to do to learn all of the neato keen things it can do!

Well, I've had one for almost 2 years or so if I remember correctly...anyway, so long I can't remember life without it. Hell, it's so easy to record and the feature of pausing live TV is worth it alone! I find myself pissed off when in the other room and I don't have the DVR - and in hotels, I'm just about mad the entire trip!

in other words, you'll love it!

DVR from the cable company. Love it, no idea how I ever lived with out it.

Tom's got the benefit correct. The benefit of Tivo is somewhat better and more involved interface and a much larger capacity capability.

You can also set up a computer to do the same thing, but I'm not that computer savvy.

Damn you guys watch too many shows.

Actually, we only watch 2 or 3 shows a week. But the reason we got the DVR was that they started at 10 or later (I get up at 5) or we are always too busy to watch them. Hell for $8 more per month, I though "what the hell".

I have DVR and really can't imagine how I used to live without it: having to watch commercials, having to choose what show to watch if 2 were on at the same time. My wife laughs at me because I get very nervous when the memory starts creeping up around 80% and get such a joy when I erase things and it is make to 20%.

I know . . . I watch too much TV.

 @ C-Dub! I can relate.

For the past couple of nights we've been watching some "throw-away" TV to unwind from our day. I find myself getting nervous if there is more than a 20 minute difference between where I am compared to the actual broadcast. I'm under the impression that unless I'm actually recording something, I only have a 30 minute window in which to rewind/pause or ff. So I can imagine how nervous I'll get when the memory gets filled up. I have a Comcast DVR also and believe that I have about 50 hours of space....

Been kinda busy the past several weeks and haven't been on the board as much as I'd like. Today is a bit slower and I got a chance to look around a bit at what I've missed.... ran across David's thread about Dvr. Sorry for the redundant thread.....

I have DTV w/ 3 DVR (1 Hi-Def). These were upgraded last year from "Ultimate TV" which I liked better than Tivo but it was more expensive monthly.

I think it's one of the best tech inventions EVER!

DVR came with the Satellite dish. I love it. Walk away during the commericals then fast forward. Record the movies any time of day. This is electronics at their best!!!!
