I've heard both.

My boss (who I smoke the most frequently with) tells me he always takes the plastic off when putting them in the box. From others I've noticed they don't. I never had until he mentioned that.

Does it matter one way or the other?

You're referring to the cellophane on the cigars? I keep it on now - only because as I take the humidor off the shelf and open it up, sometimes the cigars shift around and I've had a few wrappers get damaged.

So I keep it on to protect them. Also, my palette is not refined enough yet to tell the difference between whether it has been left on or off.

Of course, some brothers insist on taking it off when storing in the humidor.

Yes. I wish the cigars that I have without it would have the cellophane still. Moving the #9 singles around to get to the bottom of my tupperdore makes me nervous . I don't like the idea of open baggies in the tupperdore so I leave them bare.

After reading the other threads I found my way is to cut both ends of the cello off so at least it is "in" the humidor but protected over the length of the cigar. After reading about damaging wrappers I wasn't going to take chances.

I used to go cello off, but noticed after a couple of years things started melding together and tasting the same. So now I'm cello on.

So now it all makes sense, thanks! Will probably start to keep them wrapped up, just for laziness sake. Did lots of cutting cello last night when I got my cbid winnings lol.

Cellophane is actually a wood based product not plastic. I just learned that lol. Thought id share. I used to leave it on. Then I used to take it off. Currently I do both. Lmao. I am aging 6 undercrowns. 2 cello on 2 cello off 2 cello cut on both ends. In 6 months I'll see which ones taste better and that will be how I store my cigars.

Like I always say when this comes up. If Carlito Fuente Puts Opus X and Forbidden X in cello and then into a box and the cigars are fine, that is good enough reason for me to leave them on until I'm ready to smoke them.

Really no need to cut the cello, it breaths just fine while protecting your sticks from damage, plus if you have some nice aged sticks it's always fun to take them out of the cello and see how yellowed / browned it is. My rule of thumb is I usually will leave the cigars how I get them, I trust the guys that make them know what they are doing in as how they package them.

That being said it's, like a lot here have said, all personal preference.

Happy smoking!

Edit: Unless by plastic you are talking Black 'n' Milds...in that case I don't think it matters. O_0 *lol*

no, you HAVE to take the plastic tip off to freak them, otherwise you are smoking cardboard.

to be actually helpful: once you have enough in your stash to actually worry about long term, you have enough to worry about occasional damage from moving them around. leave it on, it's worth it.

I read that three times and I'm still confused. One of us either needs a drink or to drink less. :crosseyed
