Hey I never thought Drew Estate would make a cigar I'd want to smoke so you never know what Swisher Sweetswill do..... though I am somewhat skeptical.

Im up for giving them a try...

You never know.. something like this could be all it takes to spark off another "cigar boom" like we had in the 90's... (putting these things in convienience stores, gas stations, etc.. is going to expose a much larger segment of the population to "premium" cigars...

I am all for them making a premium cigar. The money behind that brand is huge and could single handedly fund the fight against the FDA to keep them out of our humidor. Patrick from halfwheel and I had this discussion Sunday night. It isn't bad to have an 800lb gorilla in the business. They make Altadis, General and Davidoff look small, even when you combine all 3. Hopefully they are serious about these premium lines and are willing to put some money behind fighting the FDA.

Their booth at IPCPR seemed uneventful and hidden. The people in it seemed nice and halfway knowledgeable and acted like they were really going into this with the right intentions. They appeared to have strong marketing ideas for cigar events and such to really give their retailers all the tools they needed to be successful with the brand. I havent tried my samples yet but they had a cigar for every budget.

I've tried the Nirvana by DE at a local event. They had buy 3 get one free and they weren't expensive. And ya got a free hat. Out of 5 of us who tried them only 1 liked them and it wasn't me. I'm a huge DE supporter & customer but these thing just fell flat for me..could be that I'm not big into Cameroon sticks. At least it gets Swisher into a higher bracket. And if I just happen to be in a place with no cigar store at least I could get better than a machine rolled stick.

Guys, Famous sent me a free sample in one of my CA orders last month. Believe it or not, it was not a bad smoke. Well made, but typical mild/medium w/an excellent burn. I'm not buying any, as I'm not into mild/mediums, but I'd smoke another one as a before breakfast cigar, if it was given to me.

After re-reading this thread, I see that there are 4 different blends. The Casino Gold was the one that Famous sent me.

Alex Goldman of Royal Gold Cigars was a guest on CigarChat last month. I was a little upset that we weren't allowed to ask him about his legal issues, and his answer to my question about supporting the fight against FDA Regulation left a bit to be desired, but he was nice enough to send me a bomb with samples of all of their lines (including a hat, cutter and lighter). I was excited to receive this because I really wanted to try the Nirvana (made by DE), but I wasn't expecting much.

The Nirvana, in my opinion, was okay. It had a bit more kick than I would typically expect from a Cameroon, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. Not bad if you like a medium cigar, but nothing I'm dying to try again.

The Gold Strike is a churchill-sized mixed-filler that retails for $3. When I tell you that a) I didn't realize I was smoking a Cuban sandwich until I began doing some research as I was smoking, and b) that I would pay at least 2 to 3x that price for this cigar, I am not exaggerating (qualifier that I live in NJ where very few cigars can be bought under $10). Might be the most flavorful mixed-filler $3 cigar I've ever had. I was SHOCKED about this one.

I smoked the Kismet two days ago. Again, I was delightfully surprised with this smoke. Its got some decent flavor and some interesting sweetness. Much better than I expected.

The fourth blend is the Casino Gold which I've pushed off because its a larger vitola that doesn't intrigue me too much, but I'll give you an update when I smoke it.

All in all, you're not going to mistake these for Liga or Opus or Padron Annis, but considering I had absolutely no expectations for the Royal Gold offerings, I was, frankly, amazed!

One of my clients has a friend who sits on their Board. He gave me a couple of toro's
two years ago around Christmastime. Needless to say I was quite surprised at how
good the cigar was. As someone else stated there's a lot of money behind them. If
they want to make premium cigars I can't see anyone stopping them.
