For really, really good cigars, I have a tiny pair of spring loaded needle nose pliers. The guys I smoked with used to laugh every time I pulled them out. I could seriously get a nub down to almost a 1/4".

It got to the point where every time I lit up, some wise arse would ask "David, is that cigar plier worthy?", lol.

That's pretty cool.
I typically just use a wooden golf tee and stick it in the last 1/4" from the tip. Generally I can smoke it down to 1/4" - 3/8". Then I just use the tee on a par 3 since about 1/2" of it gets destroyed.
