If it wouldn't damage the humidor, I'd say nail it on :squinteye As others have said, that analog is probably worthless anyway.

Since you already said you will get an electronic hygrometer, let me extend the life of this thread by at least one more post: Know what I really want?

A WiFi hygrometer that can sit inside my humidor and lets me check the RH inside the humidor from my smart phone or tablet.
Ask, and ye shall receive.....

As a few others have said, I would definitely invest the small amount of money and replace that analog with a digi hygrometer. This will give you much more ease and possibly save you from losing cigars due to humidity issues :)

Ok, so.... after letting the sponge sit for about a week and the R/H holding about 75% i took out the sponge and put in my cigars. in a day or two the r/h fell below 60%. Does my humidor need to be full of cigars to start to maintain a constant r/h level?? I also have 3 72% boveda packs in as well and the r/h still falls below 60. I really can't fill up my humi with cigars at the moment or even half way, so any suggestions on how to keep my r/h up to at least 65 would be great!

The more full your humidor is of cigars, the easier it is to maintain the humidity. If the cigars you put in were somewhat on the dry side, I would expect the humidity to drop. Also, if wood wasn't completely seasoned, you'll have humidity issues until it is. I would hang in there for another few days, and give it a chance to stabilize. If it doesn't, start the seasoning process over. I know others have said not to, but I Boveda's kit works perfectly fine, if somewhat slow (it takes two full weeks).

That's slicker n' snot. I'm so glad I lost the anal edge from years ago. I'd have been all over that.

Fortunately nowadays, I peek at the hygros once every week or two and pour some distilled water on the beads if I don't like what they say. I've added years to my life just from the stress reduction.

Can always grab the new one from Xikar, monitors up to 3 humidors. Not app ready though, sure that will be down the road...

Also no way to calibrate the bastards. Can't understand why Xikar did away with that feature.

It should be able to hold steady. I'm guessing its a leaky humidor, or your hygro is reading low. Is it digital and have you calibrated it?

Re calibrating my digital hydrometer. So if it's seasoned properly it should hold a constant r/h with the three boveda packs without the cigars?? And if it is leaky what are my options to keeping up my r/h?

Let it sit for 48hrs before taking the reading for the calibration.

After it's calibrated, put it back in with your cigars and let it sit at least 48hrs before opening it and taking a reading. It may just be that you're getting in there too often and the humidor isn't being given the chance to re-acclimate.
