Brothers,

I now have 50+ sticks in the Tupperdor and have a new question. When I put them in there, they are now stacked three or four layers deep. The ends of the cigars are exposed but that's it.

There's plenty of room in the Tupperdor but should I be ensuring that there is some airflow around the cigars? Logically, to me, it makes sense that there should be. But, then again, the Tupperdor is sealed, they come in a shrink-wrapped box, and even a proper wooden humidor should have a decent seal on it when you store sticks for years.

So I really can't figure it out. Should there be room for air movement every two or three layers of cigars? :dunno:

As always, thanks!

How long are you planning on storing them? For the quantity you have I'd say opening the tupperdor every so often should be sufficient.

Not too long, I think. Two months ago, I had 3 sticks in a Ziplock bag, so at this rate, the quantity seems to be growing rapidly. Probably no more than a year or so. But I do open it every three or four days to let the ammonia build-up escape.

I think along with opening it at least once or twice a week for air, if you're 3 or 4 layers deep, try rotating them once in a while, put the bottom layer on top, etc.

My uninformed guess is rotating once a month is more than enough.

I've been searching for a thread related to stacking. I got a humidor and wasn't sure if I strictly stack the duplicates on one another or if it's okay as long as they seen flavor infused to have them stacked on one another, regardless of what company the cigar is from?

On another cigar forum I belong to they recommend no need to open a tupperdor if kept at the proper RH, but this is the internet we are talking about here.

6 months.. or even a year (the length of time we are talking before you smoke through everything currently in there, add some more, smoke some of them, etc..).. is not long term storage.... if you never cracked the seal at all... as long as your RH and temp is right.. you should have no problem...

Think about the boxes that are shrink wrapped and then stacked on other shrink wrapped boxes.. for years and years.. before they are sold/distributed.. very slow/limited airflow isnt going to be harmful in the short run (1 year is still the short run IMO)...

My guess is youre going to be in and out of that tupperadore enough over the next year.. that its contents are going to be getting fresh, outside, ambient air exposure on a regular basis.. and that youre going to be digging through it often enough that no stock rotation is necessary... its all going to happen naturally...

but.. frankly.. if you just threw it in the closet and forgot about it for 2 years.. as long as you had enough boveda in there to keep the RH where it needs to be for that length of time... you'd be fine..
