Regular BT should be plentiful...
but it ain't. BT has been experiencing shortages for the past year, and not only on the allocated HTF pimp stuff. i was told it would be two weeks until BT was back in stock in NKY at best.

which is why we buy case deals, and lock shit in while it's available. hell, elmer T lee, eagle rare, blanton's, a whole host of their stuff has gone from "always in stock" to "nope, it's allocated" over the past year and a half. hell, the ran out of juice to make fireball shortly after october last year, and i'm not sure the whiskey behind that is even aged at all!

short short, this is a thing. but larger and mid-sized places can offset this by buying to cover the in between times. god willing, you have a well run shop, and not a ton of bourbon competition, and you'd never actually see this on your side. but it's there.

Wow. That sucks Java. Seems that many of the bourbon houses are short.. The four shops I utilize have lots of BT. The GTS is only available in September when they get their allotment and it's max 3 to a customer on the list, which is kept each year. And yes, I buy my allotment. Lol.

Java, good to know it's not just me. Any of you who are BT fans, may want to pick up a couple bottles if this continues. If any of you local guys have seen it at Binnys, please let me know which one. Trace being my everyday bourbon, I've switched to Michters small batch... Which I highly recommend... But it's a little more $. Crazy that we have to consider hoarding...

just to clarify, the shortages scale with the brand. BT might be out of stock on a distributor level for a month, maybe, which isn't a huge if your spot buys based on two or three month velocity, say. eagle rare, older, longer delays. elmer is almost quarterly right now. the best thing to do is to be on conversation terms with your local spot, if possible, and ASK them. i got people i will look out for if their fave is getting lean; it's not always the people who drop the most coin, or know the owner, but rather the people who actually come in and talk to us. as in anything, a relationship goes a long way.

Well I also was in Binny's the other day and there was plenty of Trace on display. But I walked out with a bottle of Four Roses instead.

UPDATE: i hope to shit this is a april hoax, but my rep has said that supplies of BT and eagle rare are BONED for the duration of '14. as in, none left in the kentucky market for '14. at all. there have been a LOT of single barrel purchases, on top of regular shipping, which have unexpectedly depleted aged stock. while there may still be some at street level, keep talking to your local joint: if they say they are getting lean, LISTEN. and, if it is a fave of yours, lay a few aside.

My local Binny's had some BT on the shelf the other day. Maybe 16 bottles? A far cry from their end-cap display with a dozen or so cases about four months ago

yeah, once again, this is NOT going to affect what your local booze merchant has now. nor what the state distribution currently has. just, it may (or very well could) affect things as those stocks dwindle, and how THEY are able to reorder.

also, still really really hoping this was an april fool's thing, as we here were looking at buying another two barrels.
