So I have come across a 1953 Frigidaire freezer that I am converting to a humidor. I have stripped the shelves out sealed the holes with silicone. I have just picked up 8/4x6"x8' Rough cut Spanish cedar. I plan on ctting it down to 1/4 planks. My question is do I need to plane it or can I just sand it on one side (the one that will be facing the cigars) and attach it to the freezer? Is their some special reason that you need to plane it? Other than looks? And butting the boards together.

im guessing all you would need to do is the side facing out, just so you don't get slivers or anything when you are messing around in it

Mainly like you said it is all cosmetic. If it is long term storage I wouldn't even worry about cosmetics that is me. Not everyone feels the same way. Post up pics so we can see the progress. Have fun.

Careful with the dust from Spanish cedar. It's very caustic to our respiratory systems. A good hepa mask is needed. Good luck and post pictures!
