Just pulled the trigger on a Newair 281E and can't wait for it to arrive next week. Here's the wrinkle, and I'm hoping there's a Brother who has had/heard about this experience:

The girlfriend wants to stash a few bottles of good wine in there, and for now I have the space. Is there any issue? I'm not worried about my sticks so much as her wine -- sprcifically her corks smelling like barnyard after a few months! I'm wondering how the humidification will affect them too. Would it dry them out or rot them? Could the cigar/cedar odor possibly even make it through the natural cork and eventually ruin the wine?

Short version: you should do separate storage for wine and cigars.

You're going to be turning the temp all the way up for your cigars, which will most likely defeat the purpose of "chilling" her wine. If you turn the temp down for her, you're going to be having a bad day with your smokes.

She knows it will not be ideal temp for the wine, but it's a lot better at a stable 65 than it is where they are now (ambient room temp with fluctuations from 65-80). So she's ok with 65.

And she can always pop the 65º bottle of red into the fridge for 10-12 minutes before drinking it to bring it down a few degrees.

Was having the same discussion with my wife, so I looked for a dual zone unit. After some input here I figure I will just get us each our own to make things easy. I have never heard bad effects from storing the two together, but I am certainly no expert on the matter. Congrats on your new purchase!

I solved this by getting the wife her own smaller wine cooler for bottles. No cross mingling blah bah blah. Really I just needed more room for cigars ;)

If your storing the wine at 65 your only ten degrees over optimal storing temps for both red and white. The red would also be more stable taste wise storing at this temp and opening right from the wineador, the white however should be chilled a little more before serving to bring out the favors. I think you should be ok, as you stated the current situation is most likely worse. You should also make sure bottles are stored with the cork down, so it stays hydrated enough to stay swollen, not letting the smell into the wine.
