So I'm sitting on my patio and really enjoying a Diesel corona that was gifted to me. After searching the only place I could find them was CI, a tin of 30 for $70-$80? Is this still an AJ cigar or has CI taken it over? Just curious because the one I was given was from 2011-12 and I know CI likes to re-make certain things. Thanks guys! Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question, I just want more of these (if they are the original)

I haven't had it, but I used to love the unholy cocktail which I assume is the same blend. With a couple years' rest they fall in the ultra premium category IMO. Just very good sticks. It's a CI only brand I know but I'm not sure of details.

Yes from what I read they are the same blend, this one has been down for a few years and I REALLY liked it! I didn't realize until a few days ago that CI did that re-brand/re-release thing. I'm not a big fan of that and am trying to make sure I don't get dog rockets of something I thought I liked.

Yeah I think you just have to watch for anything re-released, or "we bought all the remaining stock for pennies on the dollar" lingo.

Glad you enjoyed it- I haven't had one in a few years but I've got one or two napping for the last 9 months or so.

I burned through a tin of these about a year ago. I'm concerned to hear that CI may have corrupted the blend, but I still may take a chance on another tin, for the price it was an amazing smoke.

AJF started blending this and MoW for CI, which got him his start (In 09, I believe). They own the label, but he controlled the blend. You're good. And they're tasty :)

yeah, ramza and kantucky are right, there never were "good old days" before CI with the diesel and MoW, but rather they have shown up in some shops well after the brands were established on an Internet site. and the coronas are tasty at $3 a pop!

we give some of the larger retailers hell, most notably CI, and there have been swicheroos over the years, but contract brands are not inherently a bad thing. look at ashton: they don't make a single stick. ever. all their stuff is contracted through the fuentes and the garcias. but they are consistent, both ashton and their manufacturing partners. compare that with padilla: great smokes, but he has jumped production around so much that we are kinda at a loss as to which padilla we are getting, without paying significant attention.

diesel has been a solid contract from the same dude, and that dude and his production has been consistent over time. if you liked them before, it should well be the same stick again.

If you are patient.. you can get the 30 count tins on Cbid for about $65.. they have gone for as low as $55 there in the past (check out the sloppy mcnubble web site for more data)..

I think I paid right about $60 for my last tin.. I usually keep quite a few of these on hand.. one of the best $2 smokes you can find (IMO).. great daily "yard gar"...
