So I walked into one of my local spots to meet up with Shark and his dad (who we call "The Duck") and I see these things in the walk-in. Each stick was floating around $20 for CA-Retail prices, so I wasn't going to bite, but I also couldn't remember seeing anyone on BOTL talk about it.

I love the PDR 1878 Oscuros, and I love SA wrapper... and this wrapper was BLACK and OILY as a mother... but I wasn't about to drop $20, because what if it turns out to be something similar to the original lines (which I wasn't such a fan of). Anyone got an opinion they'd like to share?

I'm a big fan of the 1878 Capa Maduro, and also enjoy the SA wrapper, so I'm as curious as you. I saw these going for around $5 to $7 on CA a few weeks back, but I haven't seen them since.

Aside from the large ring gauge, I really enjoy it. One of the few cigars new to me that I have gone and bought more of. If you're a fan of the profile of Liga, Padron and Anejo's these are worth a try imo. It certainly has a mindset challenge though, as I've enjoyed his sub-$10 cigars. But its great draw, med-full and balanced flavors keep me coming back for a treat every now and then.

Regarding the rg, Sean Williams told me Abe also has a slimmer vitola for himself. It may be a pipe dream, but I sure hope he gets some to my local. :eyebrow:

Edit: The first one I had was from Kennith. Big thanks for that again! Was a great selection. :)

Looks interesting. I like a lot of PDR smokes. 5 to 7 seems a lot more reasonable then 20 though
Yes, Spanky, I had just cleaned up on a pile of 1878 Capa Maduros for just over a buck when I saw these. I thought "7 bucks for a PDR, is the bidder nuts?" I had no clue that they where a $20 cigar. But even if I had known that, the large RG would have probably kept me from bidding. Now that I read W.B.'s post, in hindsight, I wish I had grabbed one to try.

What's the RG on those? Is it 60? the size I seem to have gone too the most recently has been a robusto

This cigar is really really good, but I don think many Padron, Liga and Opus smokers know it's out there. Also, most PDR smokers are shocked by the price point. Aged tobacco is expensive, but that's also what makes it taste so good!

Hawaii will be getting 335 boxes of 10. Size will be a 7x46. The name of it will be Paka Ali'i (Kings Cigar). They should be arriving next month.
