Greetings! I've been lurking here for a bit, taking in everything & learning from you all (very much appreciated, by the way). I finally decided to come out from hiding & say hello!

A bit about myself: I'm from CT, 28 years of age, married for 5 years (as of tomorrow) with a 3 year old daughter. I was in the Army for 5 years as a military police officer, stationed in Korea & Hawaii. I currently work as a security officer at a Hartford insurance company, until I wrap up my college courses (can't come soon enough).

I got into cigars while deployed in 2008, mostly to give me something to do while everyone else smoked their cigarettes around our evening bon fires. I don't smoke much during the winter, but spring through fall here is always fantastic. I currently only have a small 50 count humidor, which is full thanks to a bomb from a member on another forum I joined, trips to the local B&M, & from a box purchase of cheap smokes... Should keep me pretty well stocked for a while, at 2-5 cigars a week.

Cigars I've enjoyed: Punch Rare Corojo, Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, and all the Oliva series. I haven't smoked anything of great expense, as I'm worried my palette isn't refined enough to notice a difference, plus I'm on a budget (sort of lol).

My other hobbies include hiking, camping , hunting/shooting, skiing, and volunteering with the local Boy Scout troop.

There's my intro, much longer than I anticipated! I'll add that, as a newbie, these forums are a phenomenal source of knowledge & information. I'm very appreciative of all the more experienced folk taking the time to impart their wisdom online for us!

Hm. When is it open until? I saw the 22nd somewhere in there, but it looks to be extended. And, hey look, I'm ⅔'s of the way to the minimum post count needed lol.

Again with the welcome from Texas, and definitely check out the contest. To help with the post count... You said you help with Boy Scouts, my oldest is a Cub Scout and my youngest will be one when he's old enough, but I digress, I was going to ask if you are an Eagle Scout.

Unfortunately, I left scouts before getting my Eagle completed... It's something I regret to this day. My step father was (and still is) the scoutmaster for the troop, & I decided being a jackass teen was more important than listening to him lol.

I actually got back involved with Scouting after a college course required volunteer work. I figured i have a decent knowledge base & it gave me an excuse to go camping (my wife isn't very outdoorsy lol). That was 2 years ago, & I've enjoyed every minute of it. It's even sparked more of an interest in getting outside more.

I was the youngest boy of three, with a younger sister. By the time it got to me, there wasn't enough money to send me to scouts. Miraculously, there was enough to send my sister to Girl Scouts. My oldest expresses interest, so we went, he fell in love with it, and so did my youngest. I will give everything up to make sure those two boys go as far as they want to (maybe with a little nudge from me) and hopefully, they will both become Eagles.

That's great to hear! There's a few kids who you can tell are forced by their parents... The only thing worse than camping in below-freezing temperatures is being forced by a parent who's sitting back home in a heated house haha.

I've seen kids get their Eagle Scout & have tons of doors/opportunities opened to them... It's definitely worth the effort! Not that it matters to most at that age lol, but something to remind them of!

It is indeed, I thank you! I'll be looking at the fundraiser once out of work, plus I have to see if I have any sticks worthy of sending off lol. Right now they're mostly inexpensive sticks, but I might have a few.

The cost of the stick has nothing to do with anything. If you enjoy a $1.99 stick, it is worthy to send off. There are a lot of us here that are on budgets, and if you can point out a $1.99 stick that someone can enjoy as much as a $10 - $15 stick, it's worthy.
