I have my sticks in a cooled wineador that has 5 recirculation computer fans on a timer, and about 2 lbs of 65% Heartfelt beads in a tray at the bottom. It stays around 63-65% and 68°F. I have had bumps where the humidity would go up to more than 75% for several days if I over wet the beads, but this hasn't happened in at least a couple of months. (figured out not over wet the beads) The box is very full, and has a full set of cedar drawers from Forrest. My problem is that I have had seemingly random sticks come down with mold on them. Different brands from different sources in different drawers. The one thing they all had in common is that they all had no cello. What am I doing wrong? At first I thought that the humidity spike could have caused the mold, but that hasn't happened in quite a while. Yesterday I go to pull out a Tatuaje Cojonu 2012 and it has mold on the head. All the sticks around it are fine....Are certain sticks just going to mold at some point in their lives? Any opinions/solutions are welcome.

Here in California I like to have my humidor on the higher humidity side (around 70 to 74) because it is so dry. Also i don't have temp control so sometimes my humi gets to 75f to 80 a couple days out of the year and i have had zero mold problems in the 4 or 5 years i have had it. Now this is just a 150 ct humidor so no where near the capacity of what some of those wineadors hold so i don't know if that makes a difference. Maybe you just have an infestation or something. I'm a noob here so im prob just talking out of my ass. LOL

Plume!! :devilhead

Seriously though… thats weird. If it was all on say the top couple shelves I would say bad circulation and your top drawers are sitting too high compared to the rest. However, if the sticks are coming out of drawers from different heights I am stumped.

I guess my only answer is that it may just be really random. Are we talking 1 out of 10? 1 out of 100? 1 out of 1000? If the latter then I would say maybe just chance..?!?!

well....I've pulled about 4 sticks out of the full wineador, so maybe 1 out of 100? If it was in just one drawer, what would I do to the drawer to sanitize?

1 of 100 is to me saying that the B&M where you purchased had the problem and you just got gifted a ready to bloom mold stick.
all that air circulating can diffuse the spread into a very seldom random single outbreak playout like your describing.
one solution to ending the mold situation - flood your wino with co2, wait 96 or so hrs. wont hurt a thing. :)

sidenote - everytime ive visited a certain B&M near me, their tat cojunos are consistently in some stage of molding.

Thanks
