There's a huge demand for cigars in the US right now. I wonder what the percentage of cigars shipped vs. cigars smoked is like? Would love to know how responsible we hoarders are for driving up demand (and prices) because we buy boxes and sit on them. Somewhere in the future there is going to be a rash of deaths of old cigar smokers whose families will have no clue what to do with their Igloo full of "grandpa's old stogies," and a trove of beloved aged Opus and Liga and Bolis are going to head to the landfill, their Bovedas struggling to maintain a few last drops of moisture out in the baking sun, until they finally give up the ghost and everything dries out and becomes one with nature once more.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I've often thought this too. I would guess you would have to leave them to someone in your will. Crazy how many cigars we think we need, but it's a hobby so it shouldn't make sense.

Great imagery, Senor Perfecto :) It does seem a shame to let them all go to waste... If i find out that my time is limited, I'll make sure to pass into the great beyond puffing away, trying to get the most out of my last :)

Screw that. You can't take it with you, I'm gonna smoke every last one of these cigars.

Then again, I'm under 500 cigars total, so it won't take me as long as it'll take most of you.

I get exactly what you're saying, and I refuse to let this happen to my precious cigar collection. If I make it to a ripe old age I figure I'll start smoking them 2 at a time so that they don't go to waste. Just duct tape em together cap to foot. Call it a quadruple corona.
Of course, the hard part will be not buying more, which I am addicted to far more then the actual smoking of cigars themselves.

Holy crap - that's still a lot (from my perspective, granted)
That estimate may have been a bit on the high side, but yeah, it's actually a lot from my own perspective as well. Five of the boxes are boxes from the months my kids were born, and will be smoked once a year. Setting those aside, I have about 300 in my regular stock, which is about a 3 year supply for me. The plan was to begin to age some of my CCs, while I smoked the NCs. The problem is, I seem to be doing the reverse, as I keep wanting to smoke CCs and I end up leaving the NCs alone!

:scratchhe Don't you have like 3 or 4 wineadors going? Sounds like a lot of empty space...
I do have three wineadors. One is for CC singles to smoke, one is for CC boxes to rest, and the third is for NCs. I do have lots of empty space, but I've sold a lot of stock over the past several months due to things that have come up. But also, I wanted room to expand in the future.

I hear you on that. Im still pretty new to cigars and keep trying different cigars, though im starting to pin down certain things I like in a cigar, and seeking those. Part of the fun is hunting and buying them. I can see myself growing a collection too big to smoke alone. Maybe not a multiple lifetimes quantity, but 5-10 years worth

Man with the amount of cigars I smoke, I'd need 18,000 cigars for 10-15 years worth.. That's a lot of beans...

I smoke what I buy or what is generously bombed.. I have a few purchases that I'm saving for a specific time this year (the month of October to be exact... I'm sure you can all figure out what those are) the rest I give away. I'm too curious and impatient to keep anything that good around. It's usually the junk that gets the age lol. I recently revisited a perdomo limited 2006 that I bought 6 months ago. I really didn't like them then but 6 months made a huge difference. Don't wait.. You never know when you might have waited too long..
