Dog teeth cleaning

Anyone use anything special to clean their dog's teeth?

any special tooth paste, some better than others? special tools?

normally we just do the biscuit thing...but when we have actually brushed thier teeth the vet has told us an old toothbrush...and a mild toothpaste...no sense in buying the stuff from the vet lol...plus it helps if you have done it to your dog once or twice when young we found out...cuz when they get older they might not like it lol..our newest pup twitch thinks its a game so its kinda find to brush hers lol..just my .02 ...len

I attempted to train my dog to get his teeth brushed when he was a pup. I gave up trying because he just thought it was time for a game of tug of war with the toothbrush.

Dog biscuits are working fine so far.

I have these rubber things that fit on your fingers and special toothpaste (both form the pet store). I have an 8 month old puppy that thinks anything you put near his face is a toy / treat, so I had to go with specialized equipment. Damn dogs are expensive. It will all be worth it once I finally teach him how to make me a drink.

He actually doesn't mind having his teeth brushed. I have those finger brushes also, the only problem is he likes to chew on the brush while I'm doing it, even with the finger brush. He just had a couple of teeth that looked a little yellowish, like he's been digging into my cigar stash. Just wondering if there was any better brands of toothpaste out there.

I have the dogs teeth brushed everytime she is groomed. The dog gets groomed every 6-8 weeks.

No doggie breathe for her.

I used to take mine to the vet on a pretty regular basis to have their teeth cleaned. The older they get, the more their teeth can become a health issue.

mine does once a year to the vet to have his teeth cleaned and polished. they put him under general anesthesia. it is too inconvenient to brush his teeth after every meal (dry food), so innevitably some tar build up and discoloring occurs.

Dog goes to the groomer once a month and they clean his teeth. We used to have to knock him out when the vet did it but he likes the groomer so much he just lets her do it. The difference is so amazing, I am changing vets. He really doesn't like or trust the vet.

We use this little tooth brush and some paste we get at per smart. Beef flavor they love it and let us do it with no problem. Personally I think it taste like crap...

You're not supposed to use their toothpaste!

Like a lot of folks, I use biscuits, a big-ass nylabone, and the occasional Greenie to maintain good pooch dental health...but about every six months, I use a couple of different types of dental scalers to give him a proper cleaning.

See, the "play dead" command...or in Kroger's case, "bang"...actually comes in handy. I taught him from an early age to lay still for paw-dicures and teeth cleaning. Whenever we see him, the vet comments about how good his teeth look.

The only time his breath stinks is right after his twice-weekly salmon dinner...and after he's been cruising the litter box for "kitty rocca." :barf:
