Lanceros have been around for a while, but I do think the industry is pushing them more. I've had a couple exceptional Lancero's, Liga L40, Daruma Mutante/Master Mutante, but for the most part
they rarely wow me. Other issue is they don't travel well unless you pack them in a portable hardcase or tube. I like that I can grab a robusto and put it my cupholder on the way to the bar or restaurant.

This is like the question of what is my favorite cigar. Not a fad. I like most marcas including the lancero and include them in my rotation. I have certain cigars that I prefer in certain marcas. PLPC. Boli belicoso fino. Tatuaje black lance. etc. I don't smoke the same cigar or marca every day but mix it up. The lance gives you the full flavor of the wrapper.

i think the "fad" at play is manufacturers seeing some lances finally selling, and trying to get a peice of the sales without considering if a lance will work for them. not every blend works in a lance (for me), and not every manufacturer can make one well. if AB, general, or altadis puts out a lance, i am going to be skeptical. room101? the garcias? even oliva? based on what i have had, i will probably try it, as they have (to me, again) a solid history of making lances worth my time.

and, as for the market of us cigar smokers at large, we truly are at a farther point on the bell curve. how many people you think pick up cigars regularly at a shop, or online at CI, and never poke their heads into an internet forum? "what we like" and "what everyone likes" are rarely one in the same, especially for the passionate like us. just like the beer world: no one blogs or tweets about bud and miller, but that is what sells. you want craft, make sure to spend for it. you want lances? buy them, and turn other people on to them, so they are worth the time and money to produce.

I would say my favorite is the Robusto size, but I am trying to gather more and more of the Lancero size....as far as fad for myself the Jury is out, I will need to smoke a few more and make up my mind. If I needed to pin down a down fall in the size it would be that they are not as travel friendly.

Not long ago I thought like most noobs (even though I have been enjoying cigars fairly regularly almost 10 years now) that bigger is better, especially regarding RG. I would stick to robusto and toro mostly but would also seek out things up to 60rg thinking I got a better "bang for the buck". I have had a handful of lanceros and have loved them with the exception of the Rocky Patel Edge Maduro that I had before I realized Rocky Patel's stuff is not in my wheelhouse for the most part and I know most here feel the same. I now try to stick with smaller sticks and smaller RG now and they tend to taste better to me

I was actually pondering about lanceros the other day. I had a Tat black kancero that is, so far, the best cigar I've experienced & was looking to get some more, but wasn't sure how different the corona gorda would be compared the the lancero.

Do lanceros provide the best taste since the wrapper is smaller/less filler?

To answer your last question, it really is a matter of taste. Certain wrappers really enhance the flavors of the blend when they smoke well together in the smaller vitolas. If you were to ask me, the Black Petite Lancero is a better smoke than the CG, but is based on my taste only. Also, not taking into account potential burn issues which I normally do not have with the PL. The actual Lancero was a limited release, but the Petite is fairly readily available. Happy smoking brother!

Some lanceros are very good, some are not. Personally Ill take a lonsdale or corona gorda over a lancero any day of the week.

Not a fan of the jawbreakers either, 56 is as large as Ill go.

A couple of my all-time faves are lanceros, like the Room101 Daruma, Tat Black Label and My Father No. 4.

My B&M doesn't stock a lot of them, and I'm sure that people overlook them due to the RG but I seem to get approximately as much smoke time from a lancero as from a robusto. I'm sure some simple math could confirm that story but...er...I'm too busy right now for that.

I will add that I feel like a gentleman when I'm smoking a lancero :eyebrow:

Lancero's are my favorite size. The only problem is, like the article states, not many people buy them, so they aren't carried or produced. And when they are, aside from a few, they're generally more expensive than they should be. The typical new smoker sees them and doesn't buy them becuase they think of the big fat cigars that they've seen in movies that are always clenched in the jaws of the rich guy. It's a shame.
