So my wineador 281e build is almost done.. Not final but close.

We moved into a new house last week, and I have a really cool looking under counter fridge that has died. It's an old Viking with fluted glass and a big stainless handle.

Should I try to convert it into a humidor? It would basically be like a coolidor. It doesn't work, it has no juice running. So it would basically just sit there.

My thoughts were try to seal it up, put some cedar trays in it, throw some kitty litter in there and have a cool looking box. I would put it down in the basement where it would stay pretty cool. Not too hot...

Thoughts? Would this work and make sense??

Most of the guys that have cooler homes never even plug in there wineadors from what I gather. As long as the temp is good and it holds rh your good to go.

I don't have my wineador plugged in. Keeps between 65-68 degrees year round. It is on the lower level though.

Hey Brandon, my only fear would be that if it was used as an actual refrigerator, you may not get the smell out.

Aside from that (and the fact that fluted glass is ugly as sin! lol) I see no reason why that wouldn't work perfectly well as a coolidor!

Like others have said, if it seals, your golden.

I had 2 wineadors (one small and one large 142 bottle unit) and neither were plugged in. If your house stays cool all year (70 and below) there is no reason to even have to plug it in. If you are having trouble getting the "used" smell out of it, try active carbon (the fish tank stuff). It works like a charm.

Good call on the smell.. It did have a freon leak which killed the unit. I'll try the carbon and see if I can eradicate the smell.
