But yes, if you come to this, or really any cigar forum, with a 50 count and expect it to be sufficient, you're fooling yourself.
There should be a disclaimer for new members!
Disclaimer is, these's foo's are crazy so watch what you say around here. Examples above and in this entire thread.
Disclaimers above, to the right, under, around the corner, and pretty much anywhere you look.. Just no one heeds those disclaimers now do they?

Funny thread. I can echo the others here. Started out with a big "I'll never fill it" 120 count desktop. Two years later I couldn't get the lid shut on my 3rd cooler. I realized I had a serious problem, and cut way back. Now everything just barely fits in only TWO coolers, lol.

When I started, about 5 years ago, I had a cheapo, free-with-purchase 20ct humidor with five Rocky Patel Olde World Reserva Maduros in it, and now I have multiple wineadors.

I've often told people to go way bigger than necessary, but I've rethought that position. Here's why:

-Coolers are cheap. A 28qt is $20 on Amazon.com, and a 150qt goes on sale on Walmart.com regularly for $50. So you're not talking a lot of money to upgrade.
-The environment inside a coolidor is a lot easier to regulate when it's mostly full.

-Most important, you're just getting started. There's absolutely no reason to be tempted to grow a huge stash all at once, which buying a huge cooler will definitely do. Take your time, smoke a lot of singles, develop your palate and preferences. Your palate will change over the next couple years, and sticks you might think amazing now you may not even want to smoke in a couple years. Take it slow, wait to stock up until you're far enough along in the hobby to buy for flavor and preference, not for brand or bargain. One way to help yourself wait is to keep your extra space somewhat limited.

My recommendation for you right now is to grab a 28qt cooler, a few Boveda packs, and four cheaphumidor.com cigar trays (they're sometimes cheaper on eBay). That should suffice for a while, and when you out grow that, get another. When you outgrow both, grab a big cooler, and pass the little ones to guys new to the hobby, or sell 'em.
I agree with many of your points but after buying my fourth small cooler...I say go big. Here is when. The day to get a big coolidor is the day you realize that you like to keep your sticks in their boxes. Storage by box is something really cool. It also allows you to watch a stick change over months and years which is hard to do if you only have five. Once you start to tetris boxes, you will be glad you went bigger

As much as I romanticize this idea, no way could I actually execute it. I have too many other things that need my dollars, and several others that want my dollars.

Sticking with fiscal responsibility, id not prefer to push to go too big or you're more tempted to fill it. Personal experience, I spent too much filling my boxes. But now im fairly well stocked, both my humidors are full enough. If I had gone bigger, id probably still be buying.

So yes, I think you should go bigger than a 50ct desktop if you're getting into cigars and smoking regularly but at the same time restraint needs to be exercised.

...So glad I'm not on that site yet, Famous is kicking my ass enough as it is.
Allow me to help you out - if you use the Chrome browser, there's a plug-in that let's you see the lowest price any of the free-fall items has sold for!
Please do tell
It's called the Cigar Bid Free Fall Plugin and it adds another price called "Lowest Price" so you know the cheapest price to date:

Ah. Not romanticized, but rather being practical. A sealed big igloo can actually hold the humis you bought and any boxes plus baggies etc. Sealed is sealed. But fear not. I will put this here for future reference, "I told you so". lol

I know that feeling. I went from not knowing squat about cigars in October of 2012 to having a 6 foot tall cabinet in my home today. This forum was the main driving influence. Well, that and cigars.
