So I did A LOT of searching and wasn't able to find a definite answer on this. Smoking on my patio, it's real quiet and every now and then I hear a sizzle sound for a split second in my cigar (JdN Rosalones). Beetle larvae? Moisture? Gasses? Wineador has been at 63% rh and 72-73 degrees. Searched the whole thing...no holes, no dust. What say you? Anyone else heard this/had this happen? And if this is in the wrong place feel free to move it along. Thanks gents.

I've heard as crackling sound once or twice from a cigar. I want to believe it's just a little bit dryer leaf. I know we've all smoked plenty of beetle larva but I choose not to think about that.

Wouldn't you like to know, IL
That's is the meaty side of the flavor wheel descriptions.
Aughhh Hoshneer you crack me up.

Could be anything man, I don't think I'd loose sleep over it unless it's causing issues with the burn or tastes bad. If all your doing is hearing a noise but nothing about the cigar changes, you should just shrug your shoulders and keep on keeping on.

Now that I think about it, I used to hear that shit all the time in my cigarettes...

All joking aside, you might want to consider separating all your jdn rosalones from the rest of your cigars.

I've heard it said that that is simply pockets of oil rich tobacco sizzling out. If it were beetle larva, your stash would be toast in the next few days...

Though I've never experienced it first hand (at least not knowingly), I've been told that beetle larva makes a "popping" sound when smoked. They are also suppose to have a horrid, bitter taste. So if all you are hearing is a "hiss", and no nasty taste, I'd say it's something else, like the oil clickbangdead referred to. Again, no first hand experience, but this is what the FOGs who mentored me years ago said.
