The last few threads on aging NC cigars has got me to thinking, which is rare so bare with me. How and why does a cigar "age out". Or do they even? I have several old cigars. Don't know why, they just got pushed back in the rotation, and now they are old. Supposedly.

Question: What is your oldest stick?

Are you scared its not still good?

I recently smoked a 2002 Anejo shark, and found it very enjoyable both in flavor and strength. I have smoked many 2006 VSG, 2005 Don Carlos, and a few other sticks that are 7+ years old. None of them have lost power or flavor. So I can't really talk to a cigar "Aging out" as I have never experienced it.

I've got some Camacho H1 that are about 14-15 years old. Still very nice, but light. Old ECCJs and MKs that are phenomenal. ..and Fuentes that are several years old and solid.

It's hit or miss with aging. ..IMHO most EPC sticks that I've kept flattened out very quickly, as do Ligas.

I appreciate the replies. I didn't know if "aging out" was actually something that happened or just some term made up by some keyboard commando with nothing better to do. I've been smoking cigars for about 9 years and have cigars from when I first started. I guess its time to fire 'em up and see if its all BS

well, I just got a box of Partagas cifuentes robustos last month that have a 2005 stamp on the bottom of the cab. Figured they had "rested" plenty and lit one up the next day. Pretty nice cigar all and all. Oldest stuff I have in the humi right now and they convinced me to pick up a couple more boxes. Those two came with a 2009 and 2012 stamp. So I'm hoping that they will be similar when I get around to smoking 'em. I tried one of the '12s and it was decent, but I definitely though that the '05 was a bit smoother and more "creamy" for lack of a better phrase. Don't know about ageing out though. Comparison was from memory of course, I didn't do an A/B test...

I've smoked CCs that are 20-30 years old and are phenomenal. NCs that were 10 years old that were great as well. Much milder cigars but FLAVOR bombs. IMO though many more NCs will not last as long as CCs as far as aging. And certain cigars (many) will definitely go flat and age out. Lots of variables in when and how they do. (Brand, tobacco used, storage methods etc...)

I smoked a stick from the 40's once and it surprisingly had some flavor left.

To me, aging isn't an exact science and more so once you figure personal preference in to it. No one is right, it just comes down to your own experience and what you like.

I've smoked cigars from the early 80's. Some good, some like old library books. Depends how they have been stored. Oldest stuff i have now is from the 90's. No worry on them losing steam. Honestly i prefer cigars in the 1-10 year age range specifically 2003, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013
