I say sometimes cigars are a celebration.


There are cigars we keep on purpose for a specific event like graduation. There are those we share at occasions such as newborns.


What are your celebratory cigars? Why did you decide to celebrate the event with a cigar?

How did you choose the cigar?





I'll start.



Some brothers know I am going trough a separation. A big milestone this week-end as the ex moved out. So I went to the B&M and got one cigar that attracted my attention, but always felt too pricey for an everyday smoke. "Next time I need something special..."

Well, now it was.

So I got myself this Cuaba (its a CC - rare perk of being a canadian cigar smoker is to get CCs at B&M)

It is an irregular shape. I didn't quite know where to cut it and how to light it but it was relaxing and interesting. Coffee/chocolate nuts. Milder than I tought but with a few spicey puffs.

Ash held good till very close to the end and the the cigar kind of shut itself off not long after the ash fell. Indeed interesting.

I liked it. Not sure I'll get more but its the point of these: celebrate events. Life milestone needs good cigars. There's more to come.

I pick up wicks six months before all my important milestones and let them rest. I already have all but one for next year waiting. Congrats on the milestone, bummer it didn't work..

I don't really think about it. I've been told I'm not an "event/milestone" guy. I smoke what I have when the mood strikes me.

I consider celebration cigars as 1. $$$ and 2. hard to get again. I have 3 Davidoff Year of the Snakes left....once they're smoked, they're gone. Some limited releases also fall in this line, but
YOTS was just a great cigar to me and I'm not a Davidoff fan. Some of the cuban sticks fall into that category as I'm not a box buyer and it's hard to find a 5'er of BHK's and some of the pricier sticks......well not too hard ;-)

What are your celebratory cigars?

I shared this in another thread, but it fits here. I have exactly 127 celebratory cigars in my humidor.

I have a single cigar from 1983 (my birth year) I got earlier this year set aside for my 40th birthday.

I have a Bashert Pig gifted to me by a BOTL who asked to remain anonymous set aside for my 10th anniversary next June. It has "Ani l'dodi v'dodi li" ("I am my beloveds and my beloved is mine") on the cigar band, and my wife and I also have that inscribed on our wedding rings - how perfect is that?

I also have only five intact boxes in my stash, and they are the boxes from my five kids' birth months. I will look forward to smoking the first of each of those on their sixth birthdays. The plan is to smoke one per year on or bear their birthdays from ages 6-17; smoke one with them on their birthdays from age 18-21, and give them the remaining fiver to do with as they chose. If my daughters don't want to smoke them when they turn 18, I'll continue smoking one a year, saving the last five to give to their husbands on their wedding day.

I'm currently looking for a 10ct box from June 2005 to smoke on future wedding anniversaries. Unfortunately I wasn't smoking cigars much back in '05!

Why did you decide to celebrate the event with a cigar?

Because I love cigars. We all do, that's why we're here. What better way to celebrate than with something you love?

How did you choose the cigar?

In the case of my birth year cigar, its the first one I happened across from that year.

The Bashert was a gift, and it was specially designed as a wedding cigar, and the words around the band are also inscribed inside our wedding rings, so it was just perfect.

In the case of the boxes for my kids' births, I didn't start smoking earnestly until the last couple years, so I had to scramble to find older boxes in the case of my first two kids. The boxes I ended up with were boxes that came highly recommended and were available for the month/year I was looking for. The box for my middle child was a gift from a good friend, as was one of the boxes for my twins, which was actually from the month of conception, not birth - made the same month my girls were! The second box for my twins was a box of Monte 2, my all-time favorite cigar (when it's on), and the no 2 fits with the twins thing.

I tend to celebrate with cigars I know that have become special for me. When an event is special I don't want to experiment. I want to have a pretty good Idea of what's comin and KNOW I'll enjoy every bit of it. Every smoke is an audition for a special stick to fit a mood and celebrate that mood.

I agree with this. I have a few that are a little harder to find, that I'll save for something....not sure what yet. But they are all ones that I have had previously. I'd hate to celebrate a big occasion with a sub par smoke.

I normally designate a cigar for a special event after I have it in the Humidor.
I picked up a box of FFP's and Dirty Rats at an event and when I came back one of my friends said he was selected for LtCol so I thought that was a great time to share a special cigar so the rest of the boxs are for when my other friends get selected for promotion.

I have 3 Liga A's that are for each one of my kids graduation party.

I didn't really select the cigars with that in mind it just happened to work out that way for me.

The best occasion cigar I have is a pair Nat Sherman cigars that my son picked out. I had everything laid out on my pool table during a rotation and he said can I have one of those. I told him he could pick anything he wanted and he chose those "since they had a simple band they have to be good since they didn't have to be flashy like some of the other ones." I told him we would smoke them for his 18th birthday. He marked them and put them in the humidor and started counting down the 8 years till he could smoke it with me. I don't know anything about that cigar I cant bring myself to smoke one of the other ones I have. It is looking forward to doing something with your son that makes you both excited and to have something to bond over.

That in my opinion is what makes cigars great.

Other than that everything else is fair game life is fleeting and you never know when your time is up and your wife is trying to sell your cigars for what you told her you bought them for.

Opus X BBMF (for new year's eve but couldn't find any yet)
Behike 52 and FFP (for my upcoming birthday)
Anejo Shark 77 (will enjoy it after or before King Crimson concert)

But I thinks it's best to treat every cigar experience like it is special. It's so hard for us to find the time to relax that we need to cherish the time as much as the cigar. Part of the joy of the experience is the waiting and anticipating. Then over with too soon. Sounds like I got off the subject!

My house sold.

So... I bought a new house.


So.... célébrations are in order. I kept this mi barrio el forro stick I received from brother erickruger a few months ago, thinking "this is the biggest stick that have ever entered my humidor. Better keep it for a good occasion"

Its been in there 64 days already. Will smoke it in good company over the week end.

At 7h inch with a ring gage of 48, I wonder how long the célébration is going to last...
