Got a Nub Habano that met its demise in the console of my truck. It was all busted up and dry. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408574499.221153.jpg

I should have just thrown it away. Put I don't like to waste things and well... Razor blade timeImageUploadedByTapatalk1408574561.659850.jpg

The wrapper is thinner than I would have thought. Almost like tissue paper.

I don't really know what I expected, other than tobacco, but that's all that was there. More stems than I would have thought.

Waste not want not. So.... Pipe tobacco

Careful it doesn't burn too hot and cause burnout of the pipe. I usually add slices of cigars I like to blends, but not smoke straight cigar leaf.

Hot and harsh. Lol. but good when mixed with a solid blend. It's not going to taste just like a cigar, and it won't likely have the progression it would have had since they are rolled very specifically to highlight different tobacco at different points in the smoke. Kind of all at once kinda thing.

Thank you to all who have done this before and posted so I can satisfy my curiosity without personally suffering. I have been tempted to do this, but think I may try Stuki's approach of adding a bit to a familiar blend when I get a better feel for things pipe-wise.

I have a quart jar worth of what used to be damaged cigars that I cut up and soaked with a little Zaya. I tried some and couldn't taste the rum. I figured I could use it in blends from time to time. The jar is a little bit of everything.

If you buy a tin of cigar leaf baccy, like glp Robusto or key largo, and add a few slices of a habano, you can get that Cuban twang in the mix which has been awesome in my experience.

I've toyed with the idea of buying some Havana Club and making some RA baccy for a while. Just never pulled the trigger as it is so expensive with taxes and shipping to use it on an experiment (which is exactly what it would be as I know next to nothing about casing or curing pipe baccy).

I would never cut up a cigar and just smoke it through a pipe. Maybe throw the nub in a cob or something like that, but you lose all the nuance by shredding it all and mixing it up which is why it hasn't caught on as a general practice for most.

Now I'm thinking of ordering single leaf bulk to replicate the base of said blends and using shredded habanos so that all the cigar leaf is Cuban. If I ever get around to it I will post a DIY.
