You could get a Tupperware big enough to fit the whole crap wood humidor inside of, then throw a few Boveda inside and solve both problems. Secure sealed environment for 95% off the time, then a nice show piece for when you're setting it out while entertaining. The inside of the humi isn't going to go dry in the couple hours you have it sitting out, just drop it back in the Tupperware (w/ Boveda inside the humi) when you're done. You really don't want to deal with the cheap humis. I tried that same one (Whitetail) and loved it, until I knew better. I have a feeling those glowing reviews you're reading are other people who also just don't know better. Yet.
Anyway, I really think this might be a perfect solution for you until you decide to go bigger. And even then, you could keep your "company humidor" in your future cooler, if you ever go that route, and still pull off the same effect.
