1. When you can tell a cigar is about to go out, what do you do? Huff on it to get it going again? Let it go out & relight? "purge" it a bit to get it going again?

I hate huffing on it, but sometimes can get it back by gently purging. Other times, I just let it go out.


2. If you have to relight, is there a point where you won't bother? I've almost burnt my face trying to relight lol, but sometimes a cigar is too good to give up on!

I relight them and they taste ok to me, sometimes when your having fun talking they go out. No big deal. I just knock the ash of and relight it.

Don't draw on it while you got the flame there. Just gets too hot. I'll do what is described above light at ATM angle while spinning the cigar then blow lightly on the end. Continue fun as normal

Same here. How often are you finding your cigars going out? If you're finding they go out on a regular basis, how much time passes between draws? If you're drawing every couple of minutes and they're still going out, check the Rh in your humidor. The sticks may be a bit too wet. Or stop smoking cigars while it's raining :rofl:

But, if it's only happening occasionally, then I agree with Rasshat, Eddy, and Bill. It also depends on the cigar. If I am really enjoying it and it's not been that long since it went out, I'll relight it and it tastes fine. If it's been a while and the cigar smells "cold" (not sure the best way to describe it) then I probably will just toss it. If I let it go that long (10 minutes or so) chances are that I wasn't really enjoying it anyway.

I'll often also gently squeeze the cigar to loosen up the ash and kind of tap our the blackened bits inside before relighting. Give the edges of the wrapper a quick sear, purge, then gently relight. Don't know it crinkling and knocked the burned part out really helps much, but doesn't seem to hurt.

It used to be more common, but then got my humidor down to 65 & it's happened less. It doesn't happen often now, I was just wondering if there was a secret to it. When it does occur, it's always during the last 3rd, when I find it a bit stronger & slow down.

Re-lighting has resulted in a better smoke, since power smoking & purging seem to get it too hot. Like suggested, I usually heat up the edges, but then I switch to a soft flame & draw on the cigar a bit.

I will say the recent humidity-wave outside has naturally led to more relights. But I had a lance last night that burned beautifully only needing a minor touch up in the final inch. Always question smoking a lance during humid days, but I was fantasizing about a good lance(lance.bass) so I went with it.

I was just about to add the same thing. The humidity here has been horrible and, just as LikeaPuma said, if I need a relight, it's typically been during the final third.
