I have been assured by OAG, JAG, and WFs legal department that they cannot touch an account that has just my name on it and not hers. So that is the first step. I'll probbaly leave the join account open, and still pay bills from it, but will just keep a very minimal balance in it.

I knew of my wifes troubles when we got married, and I knew about the back child support...Maybe I should have been paying them all along...Coulda, woulda, shoulda, however, we were told (unfortunately not in writing) that if she was not working, the support didn't have to be paid, so long as it got paid when she started working again..I broke my own rule a fucked up there by taking that at face value and not getting it in writing...

The thing that is really pissing me off is that they took EVERY CENT, and gave no explanation (excuse being, oh, it's in the mail and will be there soon. Of course, in all fairness, I WOULD have emptied that account had I known before hand, so I cannot dispute their reasoning, just their morals). I cannot believe that OAG would put my family out on the street with no liquid assets. I mean, I have emergency credit cards, but CCs don't pay rent or bills, and they do have limits.

And the dick of it all, I had a large chunk of this money earmarked for some CC debt, and to fly out to Camden TN to take a Tactical Medicine course that I've been waiting for for about a year now...I called them, and they are going to get back with me on whether I can still take the course, and work out a payment plan, since they know I get paid every 1 and 15. 1SG also said he may be able to get the unit to float the funds for the course...

Gawdawg, it seems everytime I am making a post here, I am bitching about something or other in my life gone wrong...Might need to change my SN from Texas Cop to Texas Drama Queen...Anyways, thanks for letting me vent...I'm about to light up an AF Sun Grown that a great BOTL from another meidum sent me a FULL FRICKIN BOX OF!! You guys (all of you, from all the different boards) are great! Always helping each other out! On a plus note, I got the IFAK in today from supply, so I have some new toys to play with. I was supposed to take both an Army IFAK and a USMC issue IFAK to the course to evaluate their usefullness in a live fire situation.

BINGO! There is the answer as to why this started and the reason this happened brother. A hard and painful lesson that hopefully is learned and that you will not allow to happen again.

That's calling the kettle black. They took what legally was owed for child support as mandated by the court of law from your current wife. I hope your not missing the point.

Best of luck getting this resolved Drew. When I got clean and sober, I had 12,000 in CC debt that was cause by me. I had to move back in with the parent. I had to pay back that debt. Because of this, I am a much better person. When this is over, I think you will be a better person as well.

See the problem I'm having is that I legally owed nothing, and if not for me putting my wifes name on my checkin account when I went overseas, none of this would've happened.

Best of luck to you, this is a tough spot to be in.
Get a hold of your HR dept and stop any direct deposit, keep an eye on any other accounts that are joint.
I've long been an advocate of separate financial accounts for married/live-in relationships.
With online banking/billpay/transfers as easy as it is, I can't think of a compelling reason to have a joint account.

Good points Sermed. Simplicity is my reason for joint accounts.
Hey, there's something to be said for keeping things simple, if it works for you then great .
I've just seen too many problems (sometimes nobody's fault, i.e. govt mistakes) with joint accounts.
We have a system in my household where every financial account is separate and online transfers balance things out (internet access is the key to this, as I can do this anywhere).
It's what works for me.

Slowly but surely....The account was released today, minus the agreed upon amount, and the f**kin $75 processing fee that wells f**Ko charged me!! Now I have to talk with my branch, and beg for the 400ish in overdraft/NSF fees to be excused....

These things take time bro, relax some. Glad your getting things taken care of. You'll be back on your feet grabbing the bull by the tail in no time at all.
