I'm heading to Manhattan tomorrow for some meetings, then meeting up with my brother and some friends. I thought a cigar would be a nice way to spend part of the evening, but I have no idea where to smoke in NYC.

I've been on yelp and Cigar Inn seems good, I've also read about Wall St. Humidor, Merchant's, Cigar Tabac, and a few others. I'm looking for recommendations from my fellow BOTL. I'd like to keep it to Manhattan (as opposed to Brooklyn etc).

Also, while it's Manhattan, we're not super fancy people. I don't want to go anywhere that I'd need (or feel out of place without) a jacket and tie. Jeans are preferred.

Educate me, please!:eyebrow:

were it not for your insistence on no coat/tie and your preference for jeans, Club Macanudo would be a great upscale place to mingle
and to smoke your sticks in a more interesting environment. Lower 60's East Side, off Madison??
food, drink, and possibly some cigar-smoking ladies would, for me, be a more interesting experience than a cramped cigar store.
but then, fresh rolled young ladies have alwys held more interest for me than fresh rolled cigars
Nat Sherman still has a small but comfortable smoking venue..near Grand Central Terminal. No food and no young ladies and don't
know about any dress code.
will research an Italian restaurant in Little Italy that used to have a "grand fathered" smoking lounge on its 2nd floor. if/when I find
it, I'll add a p.s. to this post.
some cigar stores may not be open later than normal business hours, so factor that into your thinking.
good luck and enjoy whatever you choose!

p.s.
can't find the aforementioned Little Italy venue but the NY Pipe Club meets at a place called
Circa Tabac, 32 Watts St., Soho (between Thompson St and the Ave. of the Americas).
Open daily at 5 p.m. until 2 or 3 a.m.
Again, food and drink, but no ready info on a dress code but informal apears to be OK
Maybe you have to buy a drink and/or food but some appetizers look to be reasonable
enough and the drink list is EXTENSIVE.

Thanks guys, I'll check these out. I think the place in little Italy your thinking of was called Florios. I used to go there a few times a year, but I'm pretty sure they're closed. I'll check out Circa Tabac and Martinez, thanks!!

Club Macanudo is probably the nicest place you can get into without a connection - food and drink is good, but I suggest bringing your own cigars and paying a cut fee as their selection sucks. Gotta dress "nice", and its a bit expensive. Also always some "women" there.

I've gone to Merchant's several times for herfs with guys from other forums. It works well as a bit more laid back lounge where we can drink, and, typically, we spend enough at the bar that they don't mind us bringing our own cigars.

I'd suggest Cigar Inn or Nat Sherman for your purposes. Good places with better selections.

Well, thank YOU, for remindinng me of Florio's. Sorry to hear they may have closed.
Everytime I was there the bar, restaurant and upstairs smoking area were definitely
crowded!

Last time I was in little Italy a couple months ago it was closed. The time before that they where open but I don't think you where still allowed to smoke there anymore. Club Macanudo is nice but gets pricy quickly.

Cigar inn, the larger store has a nice liquor store right next door and you can bring your own beverages in and the nice young ladies will get you a glass for your whiskey.

For anyone playing along at home, we ended up at Cigar Inn @ 54th and 2nd. Interesting place. Plenty of space, nice cigar selection (though the humi was higher than most people here would like - about 71%), and it was BYOB (there was a package store next door). The only thing I found really odd was that they had a DJ playing. It was a little loud (though no where near "night club loud"). I would definitely go back though.

Thanks again for all the recommendations. I also stopped by Martinez cigars earlier in the day. Great place. They roll the cigars right next to the counter the sell them on. Really nice people and I'm looking forward to trying one of the 5 pack I bought (after a few months in the Coolerdor).

And, of course, no cigar tour of NYC would be complete without a stop at Nat Shermans. Same as always, great staff, good customers conversation, etc. They also had a really good selection - Fratello, Tatuaje, My Father, tons of AF.

All in all a good, if a bit expensive, day.
