Or just make a cigar so good the demand exceeds your ability to produce...
I'm not sure I buy that. I believe they artificial hold down supply to drive up demand and price. I don't fault them, and I don't mind paying when I find them, but I think they could probably produce more of the same quality.

Then again, I'm a cynic.

If they could, why wouldn't they as it would sell it also?

Because they wouldn't sell for the same price. Part of the high price is the high demand that comes from limited supply. There's also the "oh wow I found a hard to find cigar, I better buy a box now" factor.

Whereas if it was easier to find, people might pass on it.

I for one pass on them regularly. My bm has at least one or two unicos every time I go in. I've enjoyed them but I like a lot of other options better that cost less. Passed on the uc pig today because $13 for an under crown is nuts let alone for a small one :)

If that is their thought process I think in the long run it could be a bit counter-productive as the massively high secondary-market prices and price gouging at some B&Ms turn people off to the brand. I've heard a couple of people who's go-to response when you mention Liga Privada is "overpriced" and I think that's beause the vast majority of the time they see them they've been marked up.
