And so the insanity begins: 80rd case of Barrett 661gr "accuracy" ammo, 100rd case of PMC 660gr target ammo, and 10 rds Hornady A-MAX 750gr...$1000 shipped! If I'd bought the same total bullet grain weight in PMC .223 it would have cost $759...and I would have gotten 2300rds. Horrified at the thought of getting into .338 Lapua after this. No intentions to do so, just in awe at how cheap .50BMG is by comparison. .338 LAPMAG is more than double the price before shipping. More than triple if you want match ammo. FML

Sounds like a reason for loading your own. Then again I'm sure the brass is still expensive as hell so until you buy a bunch and all the gear you're not saving much....

Yup, getting set up with Dillon everything for 50BMG, .308 and .300BLK now. Might as well! Also, I think one of the 50BMG dies costs more than my first AR15 and 1000rds of ammo. :crosseyed

The Dillon 50BMG resize/depriming die is $870 before you even buy the reloading machine. I think that one die weighs over 3lbs. Still shopping around for the best deal, but the breakeven point I'm expecting for the cost of reloading equipment alone is around 400rds. Maybe 500rds.
Edit: I just did the math on opportunity cost of time spent reloading and it's better cost/benefit for me to shoot almost 2000rds at $5/pop before getting into reloading. Figured it out based on what 1hr of my time is worth vs time to reload 400rds at a specific reload rate/hr (its an integral over time based on learning my way through the first few dozen rounds, throwing some out, and ramping up in experience towards the 300-400rd mark). YAY I finally used 2 years of college calculus for something! So once I shoot THAT much 50BMG it'll be worth my while to invest in a badass reloading setup, but not until then. I'd explain this in more detail but it would be possible to reverse the math into salary specifics, so no dice.

Plus, it's the way to get the greatest accuracy out of your rifle, tailoring the specific load to the specific firearm.

All parts stock. Nitrided to reduce friction & run cleaner, like higher-end motorcycle forks. In either 2013 or 2014 Barrett started a black nitride coating on the muzzle brake and BCG. Previous year's models were simply painted FDE or black to match the rifle. After 50rds suppressed, the FDE-painted brakes were black anyway.
Figuring on a suppressor as a Christmas present to myself. Gotta pay for a ton of house remodel stuff first.All the ammo arrived today. First trip out with a photog buddy is "SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!"
Not to re-state the obvious, but I'm excited as hell about this weekend. Simply dry-firing the 107 presented an amazing difference over the M82. The trigger feels match-grade by comparison. A much shorter travel, with a lighter and cleaner break, like a glass rod. Maybe the last M82 I shot was shagged, but it felt like it had a 30lb trigger. This feels much closer to 8lbs.
