So, another thread turned into comparing private blends that each retailer carries exclusively. Trying to consolidate your opinions to one thread that is easier to navigate (and more on topic)

My question for you: what "private blends" do you prefer from different retailers? They seem to be less expensive than many name brands cigars, but I imagine there's some pretty tasty sticks out there.

JR, Famous, Thompson, CI? What's your favorite ones?

I really like the Alec Bradley Sun Grown from Famous. The Toro is my favorite, but also enjoy the Robusto. I'm going to pick up the Churchill to try in the near future. Can get great deals on Monster for them.

I used to love the Ligero H 2nds from CI, but haven't seen them in a long time.

I got a Punch Sucker Punch as a free sample in a Famous order a little while back and really enjoyed it. Just ordered a 5'er today to explore it a little more.

aside from a few of the CI/AJ Fernandez blends, most of the other house brands and "private blends" i've tried REALLY sucked. atlantic has a few good ones too.

unless were counting tat and pepin one offs for small shops and all the federal cigar stuff? but all that seems like it's on a different level than the bigger stores' exclusive stuff...

There are several for me.

The 5V is a solid brand for the price, and the gold is my go-to yard gar. Also, the Maduro is good. I've had one that was the best Maduro I've possibly ever smoked. Only happened once but it counts.

I'm still convinced that the el mejor is the Padilla 68, and several ccom people have confirmed that to me. Whether it is or not I love the cigar either way.

I've had a nica libre or two that were dynamite- granted most have been so-so.

For Thompson the Alec Bradley retreat is, and I'm quite sure will be, the best Alec Bradley I'll ever smoke.

The good ones are out there but you have to sift through to find the right ones. That's why I think I'll always be a sucker for a "grab bag" sampler as long as I know it's not completely BS.
