How to deal with the older trick-or-treaters

I have noticed in the past few years that we get a few trick or treaters that I think simply don't deserve anything. This ranges from the teen-agers who aren't dressed up to the adults (last night I had a woman who must have been about 35 who had one bag for her young child and a separate bag for herself).
The wife tells me not to let it get under my skin and just give them candy (the easy thing to do).
Have any of you done anything with these older trick or treaters? Last year, I told a few older kids that if they told me a joke they got candy, otherwise nothing. A few left empty-handed.

My wife had this problem with a few teens that would not stop ringing the door bell and pounding on the door, so she answered the door with a shot gun in hand.

We make allies witht he neighborhood teens. The big kids get full size candy bars and the little ones bite size. We started this about five years ago and the turnout keeps getting bigger.
Downside: 8 boxes of candy bars
Upside; My house is the only one in the neighborhood that hasnt been egged, vandalized or marked all year long. Hmmmmm

Good answers, but here is my thinking. Being one of the tallest kids around, parents always thought I was older. I have a younger brother that my Mother told me I had to look out for, so I brought a bag that last year as well. If someone would not give me candy, I would think about egging their car or apartment as a thank you. So these days I do not guess why people are knocking my door cause I know what they want. I do not want a thank you in return.

My simple thought is, turn off all your lights in the home and don't answer your door. When lights are off in my neighborhood homes your suppose to continue to the next home.

We get some but we get them later in the evening.

If I have candy left they get it. If I have no candy left - Oh well !!

I once had a kid come to my door with a group of younger trick-or-treaters that had two strikes against him.

A) He was 16
B) He had been arrested and charged with burglarizing my home a few months earlier.

I could see enough of the leer on his face to know it was him and it was all I could do to not strangle him. However, since there were young children around, I gave candy to all but him and I told him he should be old enough and smart enough to know better. Within days I had the court place a restraining order against him. I was so pissed off I think they did it for his safety rather than mine!

Another thing. I don't care how F'ing old you are, wear a G-Damn Costume or GTF off my lawn!

The wife and I and our neighbors stand out on our driveways and hand out candy. About halfway through the night last night I stopped just giving candy. If someone (not the littlest ones of course) came up to me and opened their bag I sat there and stared at them. I couldn't believe it, a couple actually asked me, "uhhh...what?"

Was the second bag maybe for a sick child or a deployed soldier or something? I carried a bag myself last night with the child, and explained that I was sending it to my buddies playing in the big litter box, and most everybody put a little something in there for them..

As far as the older kids coming around, I didn't experience any of th
at this year, but in prior years I have, and yes, I do find it a little annoying...I look at is like they are taking the enjoyment away from the younger children...Unless they are dressed up in costume, and out with a young sibling or niece/nephew, whatever...Then it doesn't bother me as much..Of course, I don't give them as much candy as I hand out to the chittlins....They may get 3-4 pieces where the older kids would get 1...

All that being said, did all of your kiddos have a good night last night? Bring in a good haul? Start breaking out the pictures guys! I'll have the little ninja up later tonight..

so...I live in an apartment complex with nearly 1000 other tenants (neighbors). Last night I had a crew of about 8-10 of my students (ages 13-15) running around the complex asking if anyone "knows where Mr. Rohrer lives".

How they found out I live in the complex I have no idea. They are good kids (in honors classes) but needless to say, I'm sure they pissed off a bunch of my neighbors. At one point I even heard some of my neighbors yelling at them. It's probably a small miracle they didn;t actually knock on my door.

I guess that's what I get for shitting where I eat. Good thing we're moving to a different area in a few weeks!
