Unlike the Toby Keith song, what are some of the things you wish you had learned early on in your cigar smoking "career"? Anyone have some cigar "life lessons" they'd care to share?

It can be anything!

I'm compiling ideas for a possible video series and articles for the magazine, so please PM me if you don't want your responses utilized in other external media formats.

Thanks brothers!!

(Mod, if this is not ok please let me know and I'll remove it or edit it!)

Cigar lessons...

Only one that I can think of is don't put the lit end in your mouth.

And the best phrase I've come across here: Smoke what you like, like what you smoke. I can't take credit for that one.

DO NOT BUY FANCY DESKTOP HUMIDORS. Waste of $. Go straight for a wineador (or coolidor, if you live in a favorable climate), minimum 28-bottle. It's going to seem HUGE. For about 3 weeks. Then... not so much...

$2 Bic can light as well as a $200 gold plated lighter. When you're starting out put your funds towards better cigars and a wider sampling. Save the fancy toys for later when you have a good collection going and know what you like.

Most of it has already been covered.

1) One desk top is all you need. Well that, and a whole bunch of coolers, lol.

2) Don't believe anything in CI's ad copy. I ended up getting suckered into purchasing some of those owned labels they re-blend. It would have saved me many, many hours smoking through total crap "93 rated" cigars.

3) Don't complain about those re-blended CI cigars on Cbid's forum. It can get you banned for life, even after 5 years and 7,000 posts.

4) When the T-52 was first introduced, and you could get them for $150 a box, I should have bought a dozen boxes, instead of just two.

5) When the Dirty Rat was first introduced, and you could get them for $99 a box, I should have bought a dozen boxes, instead of just one.

6) When a few years back, Thompson had 25 boxes of Undercrowns going for under $80 a box, I should have bid on a dozen boxes, instead of just four.

Notice a theme, lol? OK, I'll stop now.

Same sentiments as others. My big thing in the beginning was quantity over quality buying "deals" on sub-par sticks. Bought two large desktops and filled them up and lost interest in under a year only smoking occaisonally. Found this place and started smoking quality sticks based on suggestions of a few guys on a brewing forum who also pointed me over here. Now all the old cheapies have been replaced with the things I really enjoy and I enjoy smoking much more. So does my brewery crew who I share good cigars and pipe tobacco with when they are in the mood for a smoke.
