This tobacco was good, but was missing strength and spice? Are there any English or VaPer flakes? If not, which full strength Virginia flakes would you recommend?
PS Luxury Navy Flake is a VaPer I enjoy, but it is lite on the Perique and not something I would call spicy. Tasty tobacco though.

I was outside with my book enjoying the weather (sunny and high 50's) with some Nightcap in my Non Canta La Raganella Prima (translation: "the tree frog doesn't sing"...named so because of an extra chamber that is supposed to reduce gurgling).

This is only the third bowl I have smoked in this pipe and the first English/Latakia blend. I don't know what it is about this pipe be it the wide bowl, thick walls, or anti gurgle chamber, but it really made this tobacco sing!

I was about half way through the bowl when my daughter came outside to inform me there was a big black spot on the floor in the basement that smelled. I was greeted with and overflowed floor drain in front of our washer/dryer. Even though we religiously use a drain sock on the washer outlet, years of laundry had taken its toll and plugged the main drain.

I'm pretty handy when it comes to mechanical things, but when it comes to plumbing or wood I'm quite useless. I freakin HATE plumbing!

I cleaned up the mess, and having no snake, tried the only plumbing implement I had on hand which was a plunger. Surprisingly, I was actually able to clear it using the plunger. After clearing I ran quite a bit of water down the drain just to be sure and everything appears to be OK. Here is where I'm expecting all of you who know something about these things to tell me to get out my wallet and I'm not as lucky as I think. :nodlaugh:

Tragedy averted, I did go back outside and enjoy the rest of my Nightcap. I hope the rest of you were able to enjoy your evening smoke without interruption.

Time for some Dunhill Flake in a Dr. Grabow zulu.

So this pipe only holds about 2/3rds of this size flake. Fold & stuff didn't work, had to rub the flake out.

give at least three bowls; it's delicate- nice fruity note, ligh-medium N; english flakes abound but right now my favorite is MacBaren Latakia FLake and Germains Special Latakia Flake (unavailable). A very very goood VA flake to me is SG FVF. If you still don't like the Dunhill Flake, let me know and we can trade something

Nah, you shouldn't be too bad. I would suggest picking up an auger/snake and run that through to get out more of the stuff clinging to the pipe though. I got one that goes on a power drill from the Depot and was the probably the best 40 bucks I ever spent on a tool. Definitely a lot cheaper than an emergency call. I run that down my floor drains and tubs 1-2 times a year preventative and never have a problem. (knock on wood).

Thanks for the tip! $40 sounds much better than a huge mess and the plumber bill that follows.

Had a bowl of My Mixture 965 in a no name apple on the way to work.

So I smoked a cob of Dunhill Nightcap last night, so i decided I would try some of the aged Nightcap from '08 that @javelin377 sent me a while back to try to compare. To my decidedly noob pallette, the aged stuff is much more mellow, with an earthy sweetness that's present in the fresher stuff but far less pronounced. It's smoking extremely well with little tending necessary and i am enjoying it thoroughly. I am going to pick up a new pipe or two soon so I can try something other than my MM cob that @thedismaltrade generously bestowed upon me in my newb trade, just as soon as I can make heads and/or tails out of what I'd like to try. Suggestions welcome!
